Daughter Creative was founded in 2016, now owned by Jill Dewes and Stephanie Kochorek. Dewes hails from New Zealand where she graduated from Victoria University in Wellington with a bachelor of arts with honours in classical and ancient studies. Moving to Calgary in 2010, she completed her 20 years of experience in the agency business as group advertising director at Trigger Advertising and managing director at Uppercut. Kochorek’s education includes a two-year program at the Miami Ad School and earning her ICD.D director’s education designation at the Rotman School of Management at the University of Toronto. Design is what the agency is about. Dawes, the director of development, says it is talent dense: “We love working alongside other talented people, that’s why we are so picky about who we hire.”

It’s why, after a competitive review process, Daughter was selected as the strategic and creative partner for Vivo for Healthier Generations. Vivo will celebrate its inclusive, accessible and sustainable 135,000-square-foot new and renovated space in Country Hills next year. “We loved the fact that the Daughter team saw Vivo as more than a recreational facility,” Vivo chief evolution officer Cynthia Watson says, “While our expansion is something we are incredibly proud of, there is a lot more to our charity — we needed a partner that understood and supported that wider vision.”

The two organizations will work together to ensure the Vivo brand is clear and compelling, to provide channels for sharing Vivo’s vision and help celebrate the new facility. Daughter has been awarded a number of new accounts this year, while receiving recognition from far afield for its creativity. And much is done with a sense of fun. Their client GroundUp eco-ventures just won the Made in Alberta Award with its Born Again Protein Brownie Mix, and Daughter’s beer branding and packaging work for Calgary-based The Establishment and Annex Ale breweries are featured in a book called Craft Beer and Design. Published in the Netherlands by international publishing house Gestalten, it records those pushing the boundaries of graphics and illustration in craft beer brands. Advertisement 5

Daughter’s overall brand work for Cabin Brewing, also based in Calgary, won Best Brand Identity for North America in the Craft Beer Marketing Awards. There’s a lot of pride associated with being featured in a book, and Daughter’s creative team came up with another winner in the annual report it prepared for the Calgary Foundation, which is soon to grace the pages of Optic, a magazine published by Counterpoint Press. The same publishing company also recognized the agency’s work for the new logo it designed for client Cinnzeo. It is also responsible for the impressive brand refresh for TransAlta that included a new logo, billboard and stunning CTrain wrap, plus a video for an internal launch of the new look. A complete rebrand was created for Bow Valley College, and the Own Cancer campaign continues as a fundraiser for the Calgary Cancer Centre. A similar rebrand was created for ConnectFirst for its More Than a Number campaign. Beyond our borders, Daughter is working with Tenaris, a Luxembourg-based manufacturer and supplier of steel pipe, which meant three days of filming at its Sault Ste. Marie manufacturing operation. Miami Ad School Sydney has announced that Harshita Chandirami (second from left in lead image) has won the Top Dog award for her outstanding performance in the school’s 2022 Creative Strategy Planning boot camp. Chandiramani, who currently works as a Senior Account Executive at a B2B agency said: ‘’I never imagined that I would find what I had been seeking through this boot camp – something that energizes me and the realisation that if you do what you love with an eagerness to learn, the results are magic. Miami Ad School’s 12-week boot camps are designed to train its participants in strategy as well as creative skills to meet the industry’ increasing demand for hybrid roles. The classes are taught by senior strategists and creatives from Sydney’s leading agencies. The Creative Strategy Boot Camp was in partnership between Brand experience and innovation company Akcelo with the Miami Ad School. It consists of four courses that are synchronized to assist students in building a professional planner’s portfolio with live briefs:
Toolbox, which focuses on strategic and creative tools;
Brand Experience, where students learn to inject ideas into different digital and physical spaces;
The Pitch which replicates an agency pitch where teams create campaigns based on live briefs and present them to the clients in a competitive setting;
Creative Strategy Workshops, which provides hands-on immersive training across all current strategy issues from Research, Insights, Creative Briefs and Media to Effectiveness and New Business. The boot camp concludes over the next two weeks when students present their portfolio to decision makers of Sydney’s leading advertising agencies. Now in its 16th year, Future Lions, AKQA’s annual Cannes Lions competition to unearth the next generation of creative talent, has announced the winners and Grand Prix. The awards ceremony is taking place during the iconic Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity. This year’s Grand Prix winner is Ten Week Tee, the team will now work with Gymshark and AKQA to bring their idea to life. Miami Ad School has been named School of the Year for most shortlisted submissions. The year’s competition, together with partners Gymshark and TikTok encourages young people aged 18 – 25 to go Further Together. Entrants were tasked to showcase how we can empower people to unite the conditioning community and overcome any barriers they face, to create a healthier life for themselves. Socially-led creative agency We Are Social has appointed Ben Clare as its new executive creative director. A creative leader with an unrelenting passion for the work, Clare’s creative reputation has been built over a 15-year career working in Australia and the United States. Prior to joining We Are Social, Ben held the role of Group Creative Director at Emotive. Previously, he was Creative Director at TBWA Sydney, Clemenger BBDO Sydney and Johannes Leonardo in New York. Over his career, Clare has worked with some of the world’s most recognisable brands including Google, Qantas, Tourism Australia, Amazon, Optus, Skittles and many others, 
helping them tell their stories in meaningful ways across film, digital experiences, branded entertainment, PR and social.
