Alpha Met Resources says Q4 results 'clearly underperformed expectations'

Jan 30, 2023

JodiJacobson/E+ via Getty Images Alpha Metallurgical Resources (NYSE: AMR ) -1.7% in Monday's trading but well off earlier lows, after offering preliminary Q4 net income of $220.7M, or $13.37/share, well below the $18.14/share analyst consensus estimate. The company also expects to report $247.9M in adjusted EBITDA and 3.9M total tons sold for the quarter. Q4 total coal revenues are seen reaching $821.1M, with GAAP coal margin of $61.57/ton. Due to the operational challenges alongside increased labor and benefits costs, Alpha Met ( AMR ) said it expects to report non-GAAP costs per ton slightly above the top end of its full year guidance range for Met segment cost of coal sales, adding Q4 results "clearly underperformed our expectations." Alpha Metallurgical Resources ( AMR ) could pay out another $5 dividend in 2023, particularly now that it paid down its debt throughout 2022, Michael Wiggins de Oliveira writes in an analysis posted recently on Seeking Alpha .
