Waterland strengthens ATOS clinics by acquiring second leading hospital in Cologne Waterland Private Equity has expanded its portfolio company ATOS to include a second location in Cologne. MediaPark Klinik is a premium hospital specialising in orthopaedics, with a focus on fields such as trauma surgery, sports medicine, osteopathy and chiropractic. The acquisition will allow the ATOS group of specialised hospitals to enhance its sports medicine expertise. In combination with its ORTHOPARC Clinic, the addition of MediaPark Klinik also makes ATOS the largest regional provider of specialised orthopaedic surgery. “MediaPark Klinik is one of the leading specialised orthopaedic hospitals in Germany and is a perfect addition to ATOS. The acquisition allows us to take a further step in our growth strategy,” says Martin von Hummel, CEO of ATOS. We will continue supporting the quality and the growth strategy of MediaPark Klinik going forward.” MediaPark Klinik: award-winning doctors for excellence in medicine MediaPark Klinik has 65 beds, over 40 employees and six operating rooms offering medical and hygienic excellence. Together, the department of orthopaedics, osteopathy, chiropractic, sports medicine and physical therapy; the department of neurosurgery and spinal treatment (spine centre); and the department of internal medicine, sports medicine and preventive medicine form the core of the specialised hospital. The institution has received multiple awards and employs a team of doctors who are often featured in Germany’s best-of lists. Three of MediaPark Klinik’s doctors – including Dr Thomas Stock (podiatric surgery), Dr Peter Schäferhoff (knee surgery and sports orthopaedics) and Dr Paul Klein (sports orthopaedics) – have won a total of four awards, according to the annual list compiled by the German news magazine FOCUS. “For Waterland, the investment in ATOS clinics and the acquisition of MediaPark Klinik is a perfect match for our strategy of investing in high-growth, high-quality companies that are looking to play a leading role in their industries and expand their position,” says Dr Carsten Rahlfs.
