The worst games of 2023

Nov 28, 2023

Daedalic Entertainment, Flux Game Studio, IguanaBee ALBAWABA - 2023 has been quite a year for games with releases such as Final Fantasy 16, The Legends of Zelda: Tears of The Kingdom, Alan Wake 2, Resident Evil 4 Remake, and more but this year also had its own share of horrible games. Today we are going to be listing the games to stay away from in 2023 which are plenty of them with one resulting in the shutdown of the whole studio behind it. The worst games of 2023 1) The Lord of the Rings: Gollum (May 25, 2023) Daedalic Entertainment The game that caused the shutdown of the studio behind it. Daedalic Entertainment's Gollum has become one of the worst games that hit 2023 stores amid its buggy release, uninteresting story, horrible gameplay mechanics, subpar graphics, and terrible voice acting. According to 80 Level, Daedalic Entertainment announced that it's shutting down its In-House Game Development studio in Hamburg, Germany, and will not continue working on the second Lord of The Rings title with a focus on publishing games only. The Lord of the Rings: Gollum currently sits on 12% of Google user reviews, 4/10 from IGN, and 2/10 from GameSpot. 2) The Walking Dead: Destinies (Nov. 7, 2023)  Flux Game Studio The worst Walking Dead game in existence. The Walking Dead: Destinies won the award for being the most hated and worst game in the franchise for its horrible yet hilarious graphics (especially the faces), junky gameplay, and terrible voice acting. Destinies's story is also told in a PowerPoint-like slideshow giving it a cheap look and adding insult to injury for previous games in the franchise, especially the beloved Telltale series. The Walking Dead: Destinies mostly garnered negative reviews from reviewers and news outlets alike with Nintendo Life giving it 2/10, a 17% from Google user reviews, and a 2.8/10 user score on Metacritic. 3) Skull Island: Rise of Kong (Oct. 17, 2023) IguanaBee / GameMill Entertainment Skull Island: Rise of Kong made it on the list for countless reasons including boring gameplay, outdated graphics, limited enemies and poor boss encounters. It's apparent that the game launched in an unfinished state as mentioned below. According to one of the developers working on Skull Island: Rise of Kong, the game only had 1 year's worth of development time which explains why it was released in such a horrible state. Skull Island: Rise of Kong currently sits on a 10% score from Google user reviews, 5/10 on Steam, and 4/10 from IGN. 4) Redfall Arkane Studios Although Redfall is not as bad as the games mentioned above, It didn't live up to Arkane's usual quality which is expected among its fans. Games like the Dishonored franchise and Prey are what made Arkane such an amazing developer for their engaging gameplay, stunning graphics, and impressive world-building. It's arguably difficult to find a stealth game that tops Dishonored. Redfall was buggy and uninteresting on release leaving fans of the studio split on whether to buy Arkane's first live-service game. According to Steam Charts , Its player base currently sits at 181 users in the last 30 days which is definitely not enough to be an online coop game. Redfall was received negatively among users and critics alike and currently sits at 5/10 on Steam, 4/10 from IGN, and a 3.5/10 user score on Metacritic. 5) Forespoken Square-Enix As Redfall, Square-Enix's Forespoken was not as horrible as the games mentioned on the list but the game received negative feedback among fans and critics alike because of its empty open-world, cringe-worthy dialogue and uninteresting characters. Forespoken looked promising at first as the studio working on it was behind Final Fantasy 15. Its unique combat, effects, fun parkour, and fast-paced traversal. It gave fans hope for a new and unique open-world game but it underperformed on release. The game is currently sitting on 6/10 on Steam, 6/10 on IGN, and 2.5/5 on PC Gamer. This concludes the list for the worst games of 2023. © 2000 - 2023 Al Bawaba (www.albawaba.com) You may also like
