2023 Maserati GranTurismo Folgore spied

Jul 20, 2022

Jack QuickCarExpert Lightning is set to strike soon. The all-electric version of the upcoming Maserati GranTurismo has been spied testing at the Nurburgring wearing a different kind of camouflage than previous prototypes. Camera Icon Supplied Credit: CarExpert Maserati isn’t trying to hide its prototypes, with the camouflage wrap emblazoned with ‘Maserati’, ‘GranTurismo’ and ‘Folgore’ written elements. There are also high-voltage electrical warning labels on the front and back. Autoblog has previously reported word from Maserati CEO Davide Grasso that the GranTurismo Folgore will use three electric motors – one up front and two at the rear – producing a total system output of more than 895kW of power. Camera Icon It’ll have an 800V electrical architecture and Formula E-sourced technology as well. Maserati will also offer the GranTurismo with an internal-combustion engine (ICE) as well, reportedly a version of the 3.0-litre twin-turbo ‘Nettuno’ V6 engine from the MC20 supercar. In the MC20, the engine produces 463kW and 730Nm. A drop-top GranCabrio variant has also been confirmed. Although the electric powertrain might be a significant change for Maserati, the styling of the GranTurismo Folgore electric vehicle (EV) isn’t. This latest prototype features the same, classic grand tourer silhouette as the old GranTurismo, with long, shapely bonnet and a short rear overhang. Camera Icon Supplied Credit: CarExpert At the front the grille appears to be slightly more closed off than a previously-spied ICE GranTurismo prototype, and there aren’t as many air vents on the bumper. A charging port can be found at the rear on the left-hand side of the vehicle. This new, upcoming GranTurismo will replace the now-defunct model, which was revealed at the 2007 Geneva motor show. The defunct GranCabrio was revealed at the 2009 Frankfurt motor show. Camera Icon Supplied Credit: CarExpert Maserati recently announced it’s going all-electric by 2030 and will have at least one pure electric variant for every model in its lineup by 2025. The Italian automaker recently previewed the Grecale Folgore , which will have a 400V electrical system, a 105kWh battery and “as much as 800Nm”. It’ll debut towards the end of 2022 before going on sale globally in 2023. Maserati will also launch all-new generations of the Quattroporte sedan and Levante SUV, and both will be available with electric drivetrains. The MC20 is set to gain an electric version too. Camera Icon Supplied Credit: CarExpert Maserati is far from the first marque within the vast Stellantis brand portfolio to announce a cut-off date for sales of combustion-powered vehicles.
