Citri&Co strengthens its leadership in Europe by integrating the lemon market leader Perales & Ferrer
Citri&Co has reached an agreement with Perales & Ferrer, one of Europe’s leading exporting companies of fresh lemons, to join forces with the group and provide an even better customer service through a more comprehensive portfolio of citrus fruits. This transaction continues to build the project launched by Miura in 2016, when it became a shareholder of Martinavarro and a year later integrated Río Tinto to create Citri&Co, the leading European organic and conventional citrus group. The Perales family now joins the Martinavarro, Ballester and Garavilla families and, together with Miura and the management team, will contribute to the further development of Citri&Co, which as a result of this transaction will manage around 600,000 tons of citrus, 9 packing houses, over 8.000 hectares and a yearly turnover of €400m. Perales & Ferrer, led by Joaquín Perales, will continue to be run independently and will build on the group´s core strengths by further developing its organic lemon specialties, ensuring the security of supply is managed under the Total Quality model and optimising logistic services with its clients. Citri&Co will continue to pursue its strategy of developing new countries and expanding its product portfolio, while working on its sourcing diversification across the Northern and Southern hemispheres to guarantee top-quality products all year round. Las compañías Martinavarro y Rio Tinto se unen para impulsar la creación de Citri&Co, el grupo líder de cítricos en Europa. Esta operación da continuidad al proyecto que inició Miura en julio de 2016 al entrar en el accionariado de Martinavarro con la voluntad de potenciar el crecimiento de la compañía tanto a nivel nacional como internacional. La familia Garavilla y el equipo directivo de Rio Tinto han firmado un acuerdo para sumarse a las familias Martinavarro y Ballester, al equipo de Martinavarro y a Miura, en lo que supone la creación del grupo Citri&Co como la compañía líder en Europa en producción y comercialización de cítrico convencional y ecológico. Citri&Co pretende ser el mejor proveedor de cítricos a nivel mundial con unas 500.000 toneladas de cítricos, 6 plantas de empaquetado, más de 8.000 hectáreas y una facturación anual de 325 millones de euros. Tanto Rio Tinto como Martinavarro mantendrán la independencia en su gestión. The new group will have revenues of €325m, six packaging plants and an annual production of 500,000 tonnes of citrus fruits. Citri&Co plans to export to new markets and develop its product portfolio. Miura Private Equity has acquired an equity stake of 25% in Martinavarro, the leading Spanish and European citrus fruit exporting company, to enhance its growth, both nationally and internationally. The founding families Martinavarro and Ballester, along with the current management team and Miura, will keep control of the company in the new stage. Other prestigious international institutional investors have also acquired minority holdings to support the group’s expansion project. Martinavarro aims to strengthen its leadership in Europe by consolidating the offer in the Spanish market, expanding its product range and entering new countries. The group also intends to further diversify its supply in both Northern and Southern hemispheres, ensuring a quality product offering to its customers throughout the year. In addition, the company will invest in processing and packaging capacity to meet expected demand and increase service to its customers either in existing or new plants. The management team will continue to lead the project, promoting their Total Quality model in all areas and in new acquisitions, as differentiator and added value to its customers.
