Mountain States People: Construction business updates for June 2021

Shane McCormick Martin/Martin Inc. has named structural engineer Shane M. McCormick as the firm’s new president. He has more than 22 years of industry experience, having joined Martin/Martin in 2005 from Skidmore, Owings & Merrill (SOM) in Chicago. McCormick succeeds Jack Petersen, who served as president for six years. Petersen also has stepped down from the firm’s board of directors but will remain a principal of the firm. Mike Watkins has been named the new president of The RMH Group. He previously served as RMH’s chief operating officer and before that as the firm’s aerospace group market leader. Past RMH President Bill Green will remain with the firm as a principal and QA/QC specialist. Green also will serve as 2021-22 president of the American Council of Engineering Cos. of Colorado. RMH also has hired Stan Wells as the firm’s technology systems leader. He has experience with structured cabling, audio visual and security system design, and systems integration and coordination. Kim Day, CEO of Denver International Airport, says she will retire effective July 16. Day was originally appointed as the airport’s CEO in April 2008 under then-Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper. She was reappointed by Mayor Michael B. Hancock in 2011 and has guided airport operations for 13 years, half of DIA’s 26-year history. ACEC Colorado has selected Christine Britton of Boulder’s JVA Inc. as the group’s 2021 Young Professional of the Year. Britton has a bachelor’s degree in architectural engineering and a master’s degree in historic preservation and has worked at JVA for more than seven years in the firm’s historic preservation studio. The Sundt Foundation has named Stefanie Teller as the organization’s new executive director. She also is the company’s vice president and director of corporate communications as well as a member of its eight-person executive team. The foundation, the philanthropic arm of Sundt Construction, distributes approximately $1 million each year in grants to nonprofits that improve the lives of disadvantaged individuals and families in the nine metropolitan areas where Sundt has offices. Burns & McDonnell has promoted Jake Kuntz to engineer-procure-construct (EPC) project manager. Kuntz has 16 years of experience delivering water and wastewater infrastructure projects. Burns & McDonnell also has hired Brooke Hines as a project manager. She is a certified wildlife biologist, holds a federal permit for endangered bat surveys and is a licensed drone pilot. JVA Inc. has hired three new employees. Tracy Lawless has joined the firm as a civil senior project manager in the firm’s Boulder, Colo., office. Cristy Helmick joins as a structural project manager and Toni Swiontek as a civil project manager, both in the Fort Collins, Colo., office. After more than a decade of leading the American Institute of Architects, EVP/CEO Robert Ivy has announced he will retire at the end of 2021. Appointed in 2011, Ivy has overseen major changes within the organization, including digital transformation across all its platforms as well as growth that reached 95,500 members in more than 200 chapters in the U.S. and around the world—the highest AIA membership level since the association’s founding more than 160 years ago. Anderson Hallas Architects has hired Brooke Schubert as a project manager. Schubert has a background in architectural design for public projects, including work on educational facilities, libraries, multifamily and hospitality projects. Anderson Hallas also has promoted Priscilla Gomez, office manager, to associate. She joined the firm in 2019. GE Johnson has promoted four employees to vice president. Michael Dennis, who supports the firm’s work in Kansas, Oklahoma and Wyoming as well as on advanced technology projects, has been with GE Johnson for five years. Scott Robb is the general manager for H.W. Houston Construction, a GE Johnson partner and business unit based out of Pueblo, Colo. He started his career with H.W. Houston in 1996 as CFO. Scott Miller supports GE Johnson’s preconstruction department and oversees the firm’s projects in Vail, Colo., and others in Laramie, Wyo.Michelle Robinette has led GE Johnson special projects, the business unit focused on small to medium-size construction projects and facility management, for four years. OLC (Ohlson Lavoie Collaborative) has added marketing and graphic design professional Quinn Stephens to the team as marketing coordinator. W.E. O’Neil has hired Adrienne Tuck as director of business development to lead the company’s expansion into Colorado Springs. She has worked in the construction industry in Colorado Springs for more than 12 years. Stok has promoted Devon Bertram to vice president of sustainability consulting. Based in the firm’s Denver office, Bertram is a six-year veteran of Stok and serves clients across the country. She replaces Jacob Arlein, who was recently named Stok’s CEO. Construction industry focused BBG Law Group (Beltzer Bangert & Gunnell LLP) has hired four new employees. Special projects analyst Hannah Hornig started her career at a forensic architecture firm specializing in expert witness testimony for construction defect lawsuits. Also hired was senior counsel Tim Reilly, who formerly led the legal and risk management functions for one the region’s premium providers of construction management, general contracting and real estate development services. Associate Daniela Tarolli has experience handling a range of regulatory and transactional issues in commercial, corporate and general civil litigation. Executive assistant and paralegal Heather DeGoey has more than two decades of legal experience. Hensel Phelps has promoted John Hudson to operations manager. His portfolio includes more than $2.3 billion of work throughout his 17-year career with the firm. Hudson will be responsible for Hensel Phelps’s Plains district and work at Denver International Airport’s Great Hall project. The firm also has promoted Cheryl Hoffman to operations manager. Over the course of her 16-year career, Hoffman has completed more than $1.5 billion of projects. Currently, she is working on the FoundryLine project at 38th and Blake streets in Denver. Lauren Mamola has joined CSHQA as a proposal coordinator. She brings five years of experience in proposal and technical writing, communications development and social media optimization to the firm. Taylor Kohrs has hired Sean Kemper as a project engineer. He previously worked as an intern in the estimating and operations departments.
