Micro-mobility startup MaaS Asia launches upgraded kickboards

PUBLISHED :November 18, 2019 - 15:43 UPDATED :November 18, 2019 - 15:43 South Korean micro-mobility startup MaaS Asia announced on Nov. 18 that it has launched upgraded electric kickboards for its sharing service. “We reflected on the diverse feedback we received after operating our first-generation electric kickboards,” MaaS Asia CEO Jung Su-young said in a statement. “Our newly launched premium kickboard model is more safe and convenient. We plan to expand to all parts of Korea with the new model in 2020.” The company added that the upgraded model has a 10-inch solid tire, which can help users to ride the kickboard steadier. It also applied 450-watt rear wheel motor that makes it possible for users to ride up hills more easily. The startup also emphasized that its new battery cell can now last up to 55 km per charge. MaaS Asia is one of the emerging players in the personal mobility market in Korea. In April, it launched an electric kickboard-sharing platform Gogossing and has been operating around 600 shared e-kickboards in the Gangnam area. Most recently, Gogossing started operating 200 kickboards in Dongtan, Gyeonggi Province, in a regulatory sandbox setting, which temporarily allows e-kickboards to run on bike-only roads for a year.
