January 31 by VCPOST Staff Reporter  A Bangalore-based startup has solved the problem of people who constantly run out of batteries during long and frequent trips. Lumos Design Technology makes bags that have a built-in battery and can power mobile gadgets using solar energy, according to The Economic Times. Gandharv Bakshi and his wife Lavina designed the first prototype of the backpack in 2012. The wearable technology-inspired product has a solar panel at the top, which was later replaced with solar fabric imported from the US and China. Now, Lumos has an unbreakable and waterproof design for the product. The battery charges at a rate of 3 watts per hour. This is enough to charge a phone two times, the report detailed. In 2013, Google India Managing Director Rajan Anandan poured in INR25 lakh in the wearable tech startup, the report added. Advertisement Lavina, who used to work in a denim firm in India, is now the full-time designer of wearable tech products for Lumos. The solar powered bags are available on the startup's website at INR5,000 apiece. The products are also being sold through BumsOnTheSaddle, a bike and accessories retailer in Bangalore, the report said. At present, Bakshi is in talks with ecommerce players and two big laptop makers to beef up the sales of Lumos. He is also getting the backpack tested in Mexico, Malaysia, and in the Philippines, The Economic Times reported. Advertisement © 2016 VCPOST, All rights reserved. Do not reproduce without permission.
