Kenya : Google finance Lori Systems, une start-up de logistique numérique Date de création: 05 septembre 2022 17:25 (Agence Ecofin) - La maîtrise de la chaîne de valeurs logistique dans le commerce international continue d’être un casse-tête pour les expéditeurs. Certains acteurs du domaine voient en la révolution numérique des outils efficaces pour régler les problèmes. Google a annoncé courant août avoir financé la société Lori Systems, à travers le Fonds d’investissement africain de 50 millions $ qu’il a mis en place. Basée à Nairobi, la start-up également présente en Ouganda et au Nigeria offre des services numériques de logistique pour gérer plus efficacement les expéditions de fret. Plus tôt cette année, elle a été considérée par le Financial Times comme la septième entreprise à la croissance la plus rapide d’Afrique, et a déjà transporté pour plus de 10 milliards USD de fret à travers le continent depuis sa création en 2017. L’apport de Google devrait permettre de redynamiser et d’étendre la révolution engagée par Lori systems, quant au contrôle de la chaîne de valeurs du transport de marchandises. Selon le rapport Logistics Africa de Knight Frank, 75% du prix d’un produit en Afrique est dû à la logistique (contre seulement 6% aux États-Unis). « Chez Google, nous comprenons le pouvoir transformateur que la numérisation peut apporter au continent africain. Il y a tellement de potentiel dans la région, mais ce n’est que par l’innovation que cela peut être pleinement libéré. Lori Systems est un excellent exemple de la façon dont la technologie peut être évolutive à travers l’Afrique et comment, à son tour, cela peut conduire à un développement économique significatif.
