Article content Many of Canada’s finest new home builders, renovators and land developers are here in Alberta as evidenced by the number of western finalists in the 2022 Canadian Home Builders’ Association’s National Awards for Housing Excellence. There were a record-setting 800 entries from eight provinces, with Alberta companies grabbing 67 finalist positions — 44 in Calgary and 23 in Edmonton — competing in 48 categories. There were also three grand award categories for design, renovation and marketing excellence. “From innovative design to incredible renovation transformations to thoughtfully planned communities, this year’s finalists are an impressive representation the incredible work done by Canada’s residential construction industry, which is made up of small family-run businesses as well as larger companies,” said Kevin Lee, CEO of the national organization. Advertisement 3 Article content The 2022 CHBA awards are advancing green technology with awards for Best Production Net Zero Home and Best Custom or Renovated Net Zero Home. In Calgary, Jayman Built had nine nominations in seven categories including Best Community Development and Best Mid to High Rise Building (Completed) for Westman Village. Five of Jayman’s other nominations were in Best New Home categories for The Opus 20, The Cooper 20, The Edward 18, The Elliott 24 floor plans, and Arlington 28-4. Brookfield Residential had seven nominations across Alberta, four of which were in Calgary. On Brookfield’s developer side, the entrance to Rockland Park is a marketing category finalist, while Seton is nominated for Best Growing Community. Also in that category are Harmony by Bordeaux Developments and Qualico Communities, and University District by University of Calgary Properties Group. Advertisement 4 Article content On the builder side, Brookfield is in the running for Best Entry Level Home and Best Production Kitchen, a category it won in 2021. Ultimate Renovations, Calgary’s 2021 Renovator of the Year, garnered six nominations: two for Best Kitchen, one for Best Bathroom, one for Best Exterior Renovation and one each in the categories of Best Whole Home $200,000 to $400,000 and $600,000 to $800,000. Dream Unlimited is a finalist in four marketing categories for Alpine Park and as a builder has one spot in the Best Detached Production Home 2,101 square feet to 2,400 square feet category. Other finalists of note include Douglas Homes with three nominations for Best Attached Low Rise Home under 1,500 square feet. Reborn Renovations, Lupi Luxury Homes, Alloy Homes, and Riverview Custom Homes each have two nominations, and one each for Crystal Creek Homes, Dream Ridge Homes, Turnkey Homes and Renovations, Deanmark Developments, Trico Homes and Pure Residential. Averton’s multi-family community of Midtown in St. Albert is a finalist in five different categories. Rohit Group of Companies has two nods for its Stadium Yards Development and Canada Lands Co. has two plus one more for Village of Griesbach as Best Growing Community, a category dominated by Alberta entries. Brookfield Residential in Edmonton plus City Homes Master Builder round out the finalists in Edmonton with two each. Many Edmonton finalists are gearing up for the local CHBA Edmonton Awards of Excellence to be held in-person on April 2.
