Lateral Advertising, based in Sunderland , was named the seventh best agency in the country outside of London in 2010 by the Recommended Agency Register, and had a client list that included Ringtons , Glanbia PLC, Thomson Holidays, Sunderland City Council, and the NHS. Now, however, the firm has ceased trading after managing director Alex Giles filed a notice to voluntarily wind up the company, after appointing KSA Group to act as its liquidator. It is not known how many people were employed at Lateral , but it is understood that former workers have found alternative employment since losing their jobs. Similarly, in 2014 the amount the company owed to creditors within one year was £181,994, but in 2015 this had grown to £270,728. Documents filed with Companies House also show that Lateral owed a total of £269,626 to 47 creditors. Lateral was founded in 1991 and was originally based in Sunderland city centre but during the first half of 2016 the firm sold its headquarters in West Sunniside and moved to Doxford Park. The move was designed to place the business closer to a major client, following a deal that saw Lateral help the firm create a number of new subsidiary companies. Before it closed its doors the advertising firm was known for designing family tea brand Ringtons’ new packaging. The 2013 redesign, which was only the third to happen since the 1960s, was launched to help Ringtons increase sales and attract new customers. Following his appointment as liquidator, Eric Walls at KSA Group published a notice to creditors stating that those wishing to make a claim against the company must do so in writing to KSA Group’s Team Valley office.
