Lorival Luz, CEO of BRF, Is Announced as New Member of The Latin America Conservation Council

Aug 27, 2021

Council aims to achieve goals for biodiversity, sustainable development and climate change mitigation in Latin America WEBWIRE – Friday, August 27, 2021 BRF’s global CEO, Lorival Luz, has just become a member of the Latin American Conservation Council (LACC), a unique group of global leaders who work with the environmental organization The Nature Conservancy (TNC) in various places in Latin America to protect, restore and better manage issues related to the environment - providing benefits for biodiversity, the climate and people. TNC conducts scientific studies to develop natural climate solutions in collaboration with business leaders, the public sector, local communities and academia to conserve nature on a global level. Upon joining the LACC, the executive assumes an important role in defending commitments to sustainable purchases in the Amazon until 2025, in addition to promoting the protection and restoration of the environment in Latin America. “Being a sustainable company committed to the community is part of the conception of BRF’s purpose and we have several initiatives and commitments in this regard. It is an honor to be able to participate as a member of the Latin American Conservation Council and, in this way, contribute to consolidating the strengthening of the preservation actions that we have with the environment. Being part of LACC is a critical step in establishing our ongoing commitment to protecting our natural resources. Our intention is to act sustainably, being a protagonist, innovator and agent of transformation”, declares Lorival Luz. One of the premises of TNC and LACC is to align incentives, investments and industry standards in favor of the environment, in order to provide solutions to create equitable, positive for nature and carbon neutral economies. Recently, BRF assumed the commitment to be Net Zero in greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 2040, both in its operations and in its production chain. Actions will be implemented to reduce emissions generated by the company’s operations and consumption of electric or thermal energy (Scope 1 and 2) and chain emissions (Scope 3), in addition to neutralizing residual emissions by 2040. As an advance in this journey, BRF joined to Science Based Targets (SBTi) through the Ambition Charter for 1.5º C, a global initiative that provides guidelines for the construction of science-based targets.
