1.9k 2013-03-09 18:27:06 UTC AUSTIN — Ever wonder what it looks like right now across the globe? On vacation and want to know what it looks like outside back home? Meet Koozoo , a crowdsourced video app that displays smartphone videos from around the world. The San Francisco company launched its service in both San Francisco and Austin on February 28, and is a 2013 SXSW Accelerator finalist. The app is “the first crowdsourced network of continuously broadcasting smartphone video cameras,” and allows users to share video from wherever they are with the rest of the world, live. The idea behind the service ultimately is to allow people to answer questions such as ‘how long is the line at my favorite brunch spot?’ or ‘is it foggy at the beach today?’ from their phone. “I was on vacation in Mexico in 2008 when I had the idea for Koozoo. I was using my BlackBerry and realized I could access any piece of information in the digital world but there was no way for me to see what was going on back in my neighborhood in SF,” Koozoo CEO Drew Sechrist told Mashable. “I started thinking about all of the places I’d like to be able to check out a view of to see what was actually going on (I wonder if the Eiffel Tower is crowded? Has the fog rolled onto the Marina Green yet? ) and realized how useful a network of live video feeds would be — voila, Koozoo!” Koozoo raised $2.5 million in seed funding from New Enterprise Associates and Tugboat Ventures in December 2012, and will raise a series A in 2013. You can download Koozoo now for iOS from the App Store . The app will be available for Android soon. What do you think of Koozoo? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.
