Kestrel Solutions' $100+ Million Funding Sets Record in Metro Telecommunications Equipment... -- re> MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., Jan. 24 /PRNewswire/ -- Kestrel Solutions' $100+ Million Funding Sets Record in Metro Telecommunications Equipment Space, Attracts Top Investors MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., Jan. 24 /PRNewswire/ -- Kestrel Solutions today announced a record $100+ million raised in its fourth round of financing, the largest amount of funding received by a private company in the metropolitan telecommunications equipment space. The new funding positions Kestrel to accelerate the expansion of its product portfolio and commercial production. Credit Suisse First Boston (CSFB) led the financing for this round. "CSFB found that the investment community was extremely enthusiastic about Kestrel's metro market solution," said Frank Quattrone, Managing Director, Head of the CSFB Technology Group. "I received many calls from investors inquiring how they could participate in Kestrel's financing. That kind of attention lets us know that both the public and private investment communities understand and applaud Kestrel's Optical FDM technology. " Designed to solve the metropolitan area bandwidth crunch, Kestrel's patent-pending multiplexing technique, Optical FDM, is a unique synthesis of three proven technologies -- FDM (Frequency Division Multiplexing), DSP (Digital Signal Processing) and Optical Modulation. When combined, these technologies provide the most bandwidth-efficient solution for the metro market, providing high capacity and full flexibility at a low cost. Kestrel's first product based on Optical FDM technology, the TalonMX(TM), will be introduced at the Optical Fiber Conference (OFC) in March 2000. "The metropolitan area network market holds tremendous opportunity for systems suppliers, and Kestrel's Optical FDM is a leading-edge technology for this space," said Catherine Lego, General Partner, the Photonics Fund. The Photonics Fund is one of Kestrel's key investors in its fourth round of financing. "We are gratified by the response of the investment community. Their enormous financial support confirms that Optical FDM technology is a sound solution for the metro market. We are pleased that they share our passion and vision for Kestrel's future," said Mel Gafner, Chairman of the Board, Kestrel Solutions.
