Apr 11, 2014, 8:36am EDT Updated: Apr 11, 2014, 8:47am EDT Bid adieu to Kerr Drug signs Email  |  Twitter The conversion of all the Kerr Drug pharmacy stores acquired by Walgreens last fall has begun and is expected to be completed by July. Construction contractors across the state have begun remodeling the 54 Kerr Drug pharmacy store locations that Walgreens retained in its $173 million acquisition of Raleigh-based Kerr Drug in November. Walgreens closed about 20 of the Kerr Drug locations after the sale was finalized. Wimco Corp. of Washington, N.C., is one of two general contracting firms chosen to convert the mostly inline shopping center spaces that Kerr Drug occupied in retail centers across North Carolina into Walgreens-branded stores. Wimco has the contract to remodel 31 of the 54 stores with construction being phased out through July. Walgreens is also in the process of converting all of Kerr Drug's customer records into Walgreens accounts and expects to have that process completed in June. At that time, Kerr Drug customers should begin using the Walgreens website and mobile app to manage and refill prescriptions. Amanda Jones Hoyle covers commercial and residential real estate.
