KCRS launches ‘awareness’ campaign on children rights

Mar 20, 2015

Partnership with int’l organization strategic choice: Al-Sayer KUWAIT CITY, March 20, (KUNA): The Kuwait Child’s Rights Society (KCRS) launched Thursday an awareness campaign on children rights in Kuwait, aiming to boost children protection from abuse, negligence, and torture, and support their rights through establishing a child protection law in the country. The abuse and assault that some children go through are the main reason behind launching this campaign, Dr Hanan Razzuqi, Vice- Head of KCRS, said in a press conference, noting that her society was formed through the Kuwait Medical Association (KMA). According to principles of medical ethics, protecting innocent childhood is inevitable for medical practitioners, Razzuqi said, adding that striving to establish a child protection law in Kuwait is also inevitable. She also said that the Kuwaiti Parliament has approved of the law during its first deliberation session last week, expressing her hope for another approval in the second deliberation session next week. Established in 2008, KCRS aims to promote the protection of children in Kuwait and to support the rights of children around the world. It also monitors the application of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child in the format that Kuwait has signed. KRCS also collaborate with international organizations for the contribution to children’s wellbeing. Partnership with international organizations, especially the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), is a strategic choice amid the humanitarian crises that have swept through the region over the past years, Kuwait Red Crescent Society (KRCS) Chairman Hilal Al- Sayer, has said. Al-Sayer made the statement on Thursday at a farewell party for the head of the ICRC delegation for the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Gerard Peytrignet. He commended the great efforts by the ICRC to help people afflicted by catastrophes or disasters caused by man worldwide. Al-Sayer welcomed the new ICRC head of delegation for the region, Yahia Alibi, hoping for more ICRCKRCS cooperation in the future. Humanitarian work in Kuwait has made great strides, providing aid to meet the needs of the afflicted people around the globe, Al-Sayer said. Much more is anticipated from the country, internationally-recognized as a humanitarian center, over the coming years. For his part, Peytrignet thanked the state of Kuwait and the KRCS for their cooperation to help the ICRC fulfill mission in the region. He lauded the wide support by the country to humanitarian efforts worldwide. Meanwhile, Kuwait Red Crescent Society’s (KRSC) Deputy Chairman Anwar Al-Hasawi underlined on Wednesday Kuwait’s keenness on helping vulnerable people and countries. In a statement to Kuwait News Agency (KUNA), on the sidelines of the UN World Conference on Disaster Reduction, which brought together more than 5,000 participants from about 200 countries and international organizations, Al-Hasawi said that “Representatives from four different ministries of Kuwait have participated in this big conference,” underscoring the importance of Kuwait’s participation in this fiveday conference. Noting that Kuwaiti Ambassador to Japan Abdulrahman Al-Otaibi, who led the Kuwaiti delegation, said the nation always participate in such important conferences with Kuwait’s continued keenness on helping other countries, Al-Hasawi stressed that Kuwait plays a key role in humanitarian action in many vulnerable countries across the globe. “His Highness the Amir of Kuwait Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah was honored by the UN as a “Humanitarian Leader” last September, as he always encourages us to help others as much as we can,” said Al-Hasawi, adding that KRCS, together with the Kuwait government and people, is willing to offer assistance to any countries that need help anytime. According to Al-Hasawi, the KRCS has offered various humanitarian aid around the globe, including refugees in Syria and Gaza of Palestine, while building houses in Bosnia and digging water wells in Somalia. “Besides massive assistance to severe tsunami-hit Indonesia Sri Lanka and Japan and all affected countries, we are also building hospitals and providing medicines for many countries regardless their race, sex or religion. That’s why the UN named Kuwait as a “Humanitarian Center,”” said the official, highlighting Kuwait’s eagerness in global relief work. Read By: 686
