Photos: ‘Shrumen Lumens’ light up downtown Danville

Jun 26, 2021

DANVILLE, CA – JUNE 23: Carl Robinson, his wife Kara, and their daughter Everly, 3, of Danville, look at one of two temporary public art installations, both entitled Shrumen Lumen, on the Town Green in Danville, Calif., on Wednesday, June 23, 2021. A second Shrumen Lumen mushroom is in place in front of Danville’s Village Theatre & Art Gallery. During the day, the large mushrooms are an ethereal white, but at night, the mushrooms’ caps, which change shape via an umbrella-like mechanism, are illuminated by a rainbow of LED lights. The artwork was created by FoldHaus, an art collective based in the San Francisco Bay Area, and led by Joerg Student and Jesse Silver. The Shrumen Lumens will be on display from Memorial Day through Labor Day. (Doug Duran/Bay Area News Group) | UPDATED: June 26, 2021 at 12:48 p.m. A temporary public art installation, entitled “Shrumen Lumen,” is lighting up downtown Danville in the evenings. Originally created for Burning Man, at night, the artwork is a rainbow of LED colors. The two 14-foot installations, both with the same name, are located at the Town Green, 400 Front St., and the Art Gallery at the Village Theatre, 233 Front St. The public art is an extension of Art Gallery at the Village Theatre’s exhibition “Altered & Reimagined,” featuring artwork created using recycled and found objects.
