A career spanning over thirty years, Buerger was most recently the Global Chief Growth Officer for Jellyfish. During his tenure, he founded Jellyfish US, as well as launched strategic partnerships with Google, among others, which led the company to become one of the top two Google partners globally. Employing over 2000 people across 40 offices globally, Jellyfish grew at an average of 45% per annum consistently over the last eight years. Prior to Jellyfish, Buerger held corporate strategy and development positions at The Washington Post and Reed Elsevier. He started his career as an equity analyst at Smith Barney, covering entertainment and technology companies, and then moved to Disney in a marketing role.

Hypepotamus got to catch up virtually this week with Sharon Harris , Atlanta’s latest transplant. Harris is Chief Marketing Officer at Jellyfish , a London-based AdTech and MarTech digital agency focusing on providing technology, strategy, and training. Jellyfish already has a presence in 20 countries across 40 offices, but Harris is ready to build up the Atlanta office. “The pandemic has made it clear that you can live and work from anywhere. And I’m fine traveling to [Jellyfish’s] New York or Baltimore offices, but when I think of what’s next, what’s the emerging cities for technology, for culture, for art — and just for creating more differentiated customer-based experiences — it’s Atlanta,” said Harris. “From having a world-class airport to a growing technology-based community, to a thriving startup industry, there is a lot of energy and momentum…and it’s great that there is a lot of representation of people of color in all of those places.” She also laughed adding that as someone born in Louisiana, “it’s nice to be in a place where sweet tea is always on the menu.” 
Harris, who joined Jellyfish as Chief Marketing Officer in September of 2020, brings over twenty years of AdTech and MarTech experience to the C-Suite. While she started her professional life in the investment banking world, she was an early employee at Sirius Satellite Radio and the startup Jumptap. Harris also worked at Microsoft as the Global Sales Strategy Lead for Windows and Windows Mobile. Harris said she learned about Jellyfish during her work at Deloitte, where Jellyfish provided training services for the global consulting firm. “For me, the cornerstone of my career has been about general curiosity. Always being open to new experiences. My career has certainly not been a straight line to the C-Suite. I’ve had a lot of divergent hiccups in the process. But I think anyone aspiring for that C-Suite role has to have that curiosity. Explore new paths. Be persistent. Seek out people who can share their experiences, their knowledge, and coach you. Whether it’s a career in AdTech or MarTech or just technology in general, I think it is something that is really accessible for women today.”

London-based marketing agency Kaizen has been appointed by Adidas to lead activity across digital PR, influencer marketing and SEO in Europe. The sporting giant will be managed by Kaizen’s team of in-house specialists, aiming to create unique content for both digital PR and SEO. Dark Horses, the sports creative shop, has won the TikTok Uefa Euro 2020 sponsorship account after a pitch against a number of unnamed agencies. The agency will help build awareness of TikTok with football fans, become a home of ’fandom for football culture’ and drive interest in the app beyond to a wider audience. Jeans and apparel company American Eagle Outfitters has appointed VaynerMedia to handle its media planning and buying. Windproof lighter company Zippo has named Ogilvy as its global PR, creative and social agency following a competitive pitch. Ogilvy will support Zippo’s brand and communications strategy with an integrated team that combines expertise across creative, media relations, influencer marketing, social strategy and performance media. The account will be led out of Ogilvy’s New York office. Zeno Health (formerly known as Generico) has awarded its mainline and digital creative duties to Dentsu Impact India. The agency will be tasked with building a strong foothold for Zeno Health in the progressively growing retail and online pharmacy space across the country. This will kickstart a ’massive campaign’ for Zeno Health in Mumbai. Manchester digital marketing agency Serotonin has been appointed by Swiss cycling wear brand Assos following a highly competitive worldwide pitch. Serotonin will manage, strategize and deliver all of Assos’s paid media activity. This includes paid search, social and third-party platforms. CNH Industrial Australia has named Leo Burnett Australia as its new creative agency of record for the Case family of brands, including Case IH, Case CE and AMS following a competitive pitch. The agency’s remit will include Case IH brand, dealership and customer communications nationwide. It will also support Case Construction equipment and the Aftermarket Solutions marketing divisions. BBC Studios-owned multi-channel broadcaster UKTV is reviewing its media agency contract, currently held by Hearts & Science, in a competitive process managed by The Aperto Partnership. Agencies (including the incumbent) have been invited to participate in the process, which is expected to conclude in the summer. Just Eat’s creative review is currently ongoing, with incumbent, McCann London understood to be pitching as McCann Worldgroup. Jellyfish has announced the acquisition of five global companies: Seelk, Splash, Quill, Webedia Brand Services and Data Runs Deep. The digital marketing agency, which counts Samsung among its clients, has acquired the companies based in Australia, Mexico, France, Brazil and the US, accelerating its capabilities in creative, e-commerce and enterprise data and consolidating its services in existing markets. The buys are yet another move in the company’s rapid expansion . Digital marketing agency Brainlabs has acquired Manchester-based User Conversion for an undisclosed sum. Multilingual e-commerce content provider, Quill , will be completely integrated into Jellyfish. Quill is one of five companies being folded into the London-based digital marketing agency, according to a February 23, 2021 announcement on the Jellyfish website. Ed Bussey , Founder and CEO of Quill, has joined Jellyfish as Chief Solutions Officer for Performance Content . Bussey told Slator, “The entire leadership team will be joining Jellyfish. The commercial details of the merger remain confidential [and] exact timelines for the full integration are yet to be confirmed.”
Both Quill and Jellyfish belong to French holding company, Fimalac (Euronext: FIM). In 2013, Fimalac acquired a majority stake in Webedia and, in November 2019, Jellyfish. Webedia then acquired Quill in May 2019. And now Quill will merge with Jellyfish to become its e-commerce content creation division. Advertisement
“To give an indication of scale, Jellyfish was valued at GBP 500m when it received Fimalac’s investment in 2019. Following the acquisitions announced on February 23, Jellyfish has more than 2,000 employees in 40 offices [in] 20 countries.”

Quill’s 250-strong client portfolio (e.g., eBay, Louis Vuitton, L’Occitane, M&S, etc.) spans 13 countries with content in over 50 languages. Prior to the merger, Quill had been delivering multilingual content solutions to Jellyfish and, of course, Webedia. However, Bussey told Slator, “the vast majority of our 250 clients, most of whom are leading e-commerce brands, precede our relationships with Fimalac and Jellyfish.”
Quill’s key focus has always been e-commerce — “companies generating a large proportion of their revenue online, either across multiple international markets or large product inventories — both of which require vast quantities of content, delivered at speed and scale,” Bussey said. Quill’s content creation model includes a global network of 9,000 freelancers: native-speaking, subject-matter experts, who work in content creation, localization, and editing roles. Asked how the deal will impact Quill in terms of deploying tech, Bussey replied, “Our tech stack is continually evolving as we embrace the latest innovations […] The merger won’t impact this approach, except to accelerate our roadmap, particularly the adoption of new technologies as they become available, with the backing of Jellyfish’s extensive global resources and technological capabilities.”
Bussey said Quill’s content production and localization projects are centrally managed via the proprietary platform, Quill Cloud. The platform automates production workflows and quality control so “human talent [can] focus on high-value tasks.”
