A physician at Indianapolis-based Indiana University Health Physicians has sued the health system, saying he was demoted and then terminated after objecting to keeping each patient's visit to 10 minutes, Indiana Business Journal reported May 16. Brian Leon, MD, an internal medicine physician at the health system's primary care facility, specifically is suing Indiana University Health Care Associates, a medical practice of physicians that operates as a joint venture between IU Health and the IU School of Medicine. In his suit, Dr. Leon alleges IU Health Physicians had an annual deficit of more than $200 million from 2016 to 2018, and because of that deficit, system leaders pressured physicians to see as many patients as possible, including setting a time goal of 10 minutes per patient. Dr. Leon said he expressed that the time goal was “woefully inadequate and inappropriate for his patients’ highly complex illnesses,” his complaint stated. In response, the suit states, IU Health leaders relieved him of his position as both the medical director of the south central region and local leader of the medical practice.

Renascent wins bid to dismantle Indiana hospital
Indianapolis-based contractor will take down former Indiana University Health facility. Indianapolis, Indiana-based Renascent Inc. will begin a demolition and dismantling process this month at the former Indiana University (IU) Health campus in Bloomington, Indiana. The project will reportedly last into next year. According to Bedford, Indiana-based WBIW radio, Renascent has already started moving equipment onto the site, which was a functioning health care facility until late in 2021. The WBIW story indicates Renascent will use dust control and monitoring equipment as it tears down the building floor by floor “with no implosion involved.” An IU Health architect is quoted as saying the contractor will “keep the community in mind when creating work schedules” and will oversee a process designed to be “as least disruptive as possible for the surrounding community.”
A city of Bloomington website describes the hospital buildings as sitting on 24 acres of land “just south” of downtown Bloomington. Rich Hall of Renascent says the company has worked for IU Health previously and has earned repeat business in part because of its “expert skills and tenacious approach to safety.”
On its website , Renascent describes itself as specializing in “the demolition and repurposing of old structures” and “effectively playing our part in the renewal of urban, campus, health care, industrial, and public works projects, repurposing land and buildings to meet the technological, cultural and social demands of the 21st century.”
It lists abatement, structural demolition and selective demolition as services offered, and on the recycling front says it “typically” recycles more than 95 percent of all materials from a demo job, including concrete, brick, wood and ferrous and nonferrous metal. Milwaukee, Wisconsin-based crushing and screening equipment maker Lippmann Milwaukee Inc. has announce Airdrie, Alberta, Canada-based Machinery Supply as its new dealer for Western Canada. According to Lippmann, Machinery Supply’s territory includes the provinces of Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba and British Columbia. Machinery Supply will represent all Lippmann crushing and screening equipment in that region. Machinery Supply was founded by current President Brian McAdam in 2010 to supply equipment and support to the aggregates sector in Western Canada. In 2020 Machinery Supply became a subsidiary of Denver-based Power Equipment Co.
“Lippmann has been a part of my business from the start, purchasing my first crusher from them,” says McAdam, president of Machinery Supply. “We chose to become a dealer because their premium products have proven themselves time and again.”
Machinery Supply describes itself as a full-service Lippmann dealer providing both equipment sales and rentals, as well as maintaining an inventory of in-stock parts. The company has locations in Calgary, Alberta, and Winnipeg, Manitoba. “For Lippmann it was an easy choice to sign Machinery Supply given our over 20-year relationship with them,” says John Jacob, Lippmann’s sales manager. “Brian and his team are top-notch, and we look forward to growing with them in Western Canada.”
Interstate Waste Services Inc. (IWS), Teaneck, New Jersey, has announced its acquisition of Evergreen Recycling Solutions LLC. Evergreen, a Newark, New Jersey-based recycling center, operates both a LEED- (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design-) certified material recovery facility (MRF) and a transfer station specializing in construction and demolition (C&D) debris. Founded in 2007, Evergreen serves northern and central New Jersey through its industrial collection and advanced C&D recycling operations. With the acquisition of Evergreen, IWS will add the state-of-the-art C&D MRF to its capabilities . The Evergreen MRF processes C&D debris into value-added recyclable commodities, including a wood-based renewable fuel used by energy companies as an alternative to coal. The facility achieves roughly 80 percent to 85 percent recovery of comingled materials. “We are excited to join the IWS family,” says John Mango, managing member for Evergreen. “Our enterprises share a technology-driven approach to our recycling facilities, as well as a dedication to sustainability across our operations. As a part of IWS, our employees will continue to offer prompt, reliable service along with advanced diversion reporting for LEED-certified projects.”

Constellium SE, headquartered in Paris, has reported results for its first quarter of 2022 ended March 31 that include shipments of 401,000 metric tons, 4 percent more than in the first quarter of 2021, and revenue of 2 billion euros, or $2.1 billion. Its adjusted earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization (EBITDA) totaled 167 million euros, or $176 million, for the quarter, a 38 percent increase year over year. Constellium Chief Executive Officer Jean-Marc Germain says, “Our team delivered very strong first-quarter results on strong demand across most end markets and solid execution despite significant inflationary pressures. Adjusted EBITDA of 167 million euros was a first-quarter record and a 38 percent improvement over last year’s first quarter. P&ARP (Packaging and Automotive Rolled Products) reported record first-quarter adjusted EBITDA as continued strength in packaging demand more than offset lower shipments in automotive caused by the semiconductor shortage. A&T (Auto and Transportation) also reported strong first-quarter adjusted EBITDA supported by a greater than 20 percent increase in aerospace shipments compared to the same quarter last year and continued strength in transportation, industry and defense (TID). AS&I (Automotive Structures and Industry) also performed very well, falling just short of 2021's record first-quarter performance despite lower automotive shipments. Lastly, we generated solid free cash flow of 26 million euros ($27.4 million) and reduced our leverage to 3.2x.”
He continues, "While there are uncertainties today on the macroeconomic and geopolitical fronts, I am optimistic about our prospects for the remainder of this year and beyond." Constellium raised its adjusted EBITDA guidance to 640 million euros to 660 million euros, or $675 million to $695.9 million, and free cash flow to more than 170 million euros, or $179.2 million, in 2022. The company says its overall shipments grew during the quarter because of higher shipments in the P&ARP and A&T segments, while its growth in revenue  largely was because of higher metal prices. Looking at specific segments, Constellium's P&ARP division saw adjusted EBITDA increase 20 percent compared with the first quarter of 2021 primarily because of higher shipments, improved price and mix and favorable metal costs, partially offset by higher operating costs from inflation, the company says. Shipments of 276,000 metric tons increased 3 percent compared with the first quarter of 2021 based on higher shipments of packaging and specialty rolled products, partially offset by lower shipments of automotive rolled products. In its A&T segment, Constellium saw adjusted EBITDA increase 169 percent compared with the first quarter of 2021 primarily because of higher shipments and improved price and mix, partially offset by higher operating costs in light of inflation and production increases, Constellium says. The first quarter of 2022 included a 10 million euros, or $10.5 million) customer payment related to a contractual volume commitment. Shipments of 55,000 metric tons increased 15 percent compared with the first quarter of the prior year on higher shipments of aerospace and TID rolled products. Revenue of 385 million euros, or $405.9 million, increased 57 percent compared with the first quarter of 2021 primarily because of higher metal prices, higher shipments and improved price and mix. In its AS&I segment, adjusted EBITDA decreased 3 percent compared with the first quarter of 2021 primarily because of higher operating costs from inflation, largely offset by improved price and mix. Constellium reports shipments of 70,000 metric tons in its AS&I segment were stable compared with the first quarter of the prior year as higher shipments of other extruded products were offset by lower shipments of automotive extruded products. Revenue of 459 million euros, or $515.6 million, increased 31 percent compared with the first quarter of 2021 primarily because of higher metal prices.

Renascent wins bid to dismantle Indiana hospital

Indianapolis-based Indiana University Health reported a net loss of $358.54 million for the first quarter of 2022 as its labor expenses soared, according to its financial results released April 28. The system had a net income of $330.5 million for the same period last year. IU Health, a 16-hospital system, had $1.93 billion in revenue for the three months ended March 31, a 2.9 percent increase year over year from $1.87 billion. Its largest source of revenue was patient services, which rose 6.6 percent year over year to $1.79 billion for the first quarter of 2022 from $1.68 billion last year. The system's expenses climbed 16.4 percent, to $1.96 billion, for the first quarter of 2022, compared to $1.68 billion for the same period last year. Salaries, wages and benefits represent a large portion of IU Health's expenses, at $1.14 billion for the first quarter this year, a 25.1 percent increase from the same period last year at $914.37 million. IU Health posted an operating loss of $29.83 million for the first quarter of 2022, compared to an operating income of $192.66 million last year. IU health attributed the rise in labor expenses to nursing premium pay initiatives and contract and temporary labor and wage increases. "We continue to work through the labor shortage by investing in our workforce, particularly patient-facing roles, to ensure we can meet patient demand," Jenni Alvey, senior vice president and CFO of IU Health, said in a news release from the health system. "Additional workforce investments are expected throughout 2022. These investments are made in order to provide the best possible clinical care and to improve the health and well-being of Indiana. The challenges from the pandemic again show the critical need for hospital systems to maintain a strong financial position to be able to manage unforeseen operating challenges and continue serving the patients who depend on us."
