Published 7 minutes ago A famous Japanese video game localizer and publisher is teaming up with Larian Studios to bring Baldur's Gate 3 to Japan later this year. Highlights Spike Chunsoft is teaming up with Larian Studios to release a localized version of Baldur's Gate 3 in Japan on the PS5. The Japanese video game company has a history of publishing famous JRPGs and Western games in Japan, including Divinity: Original Sin 1 and 2. Japanese gamers are excited about the localization, but many are hoping for a PC version and are unsure about the availability on Xbox. The Japanese version will be the only physical version of the game. Baldur’s Gate 3 is being released by Spike Chunsoft in Japan sometime later this year. The famous video game publisher will be teaming up with Larian Studios to localize Baldur’s Gate 3 in Japanese on the PS5. Spike Chunsoft is a Japanese video game localization and development company that works primarily with RPGs, adventure games, and visual novels. It has developed or published many famous JRPGs including multiple Dragon Quest and Pokemon Mystery Dungeon titles, and has published many Western games in Japan, including Divinity: Original Sin 1 and 2–two other CRPGs developed by Larian Studios. Now, Spike Chunsoft is bringing Baldur’s Gate 3 to Japan as well. In a post on its official Twitter page, Spike Chunsoft revealed it is working on a PS5 version of the hit CRPG for its Japanese audience. This localization is currently planned to release sometime this year after Japan's Computer Entertainment Rating Organization screens it, and promises more concrete details soon. Spike Chunsoft only announced a PS5 version of Baldur's Gate 3 for the time being, though a PC release could theoretically happen sometime in the future. Besides Divinity: Original Sin , Spike Chunsoft is responsible for bringing several other well-known games to the Japanese audience: The Witcher 2: Assassin of Kings and The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning. Disco Elysium: The Final Cut. Many gamers in Japan are understandably thrilled that Baldur’s Gate 3 with its near-perfect review score is going to be localized there. That said, many players are holding their breath in hopes that a PC version might follow sometime afterward. Additionally, with the Xbox version of Baldur’s Gate 3 still a ways off, Japanese fans of the Microsoft console aren’t sure if they will be able to play the game yet either. Either way, getting the chance to play it in their native language is something many of these fans didn’t know they would be able to do at all–even if some of its more explicit content is cut by the CERO as it was in titles like Cyberpunk 2077. Hilariously, Spike Chunsoft’s version of Baldur’s Gate 3 will be the only physical version of the game in existence right now. The release of Larian’s hit CRPG was entirely digital, with no hard copies available in actual stores anywhere else in the globe. Players who still like collecting physical boxes and discs will be able to do so with Baldur's Gate 3 soon, but they’ll have to get it shipped from Japan. Baldur's Gate 3 is out now for PC with a PS5 version coming September 6. An Xbox version of the game is also in development.
