Tom is a co-founder and board member of the Waterloo Greenway Conservancy. He also serves on the Advisory Board of the LBJ School of Public Affairs at the University of Texas. From 2009-2018 he served on the worldwide board of The Nature Conservancy. He is an Emeritus Trustee of the University of Virginia College Foundation Board. Tom and his wife Lynn founded the MFI Foundation and have been deeply involved with numerous organizations including the Austin Children’s Museum, The EastWest Institute, Ladybird Johnson Wildflower Center, KLRU, and Waterloo Greenway. Together they have received many accolades and awards including being named 2018 Harvey Penick Award Winners for Excellence in the Game of Life; 2012 Chamber of Commerce Austinites of the Year; 2010 Austin Community Foundation Barbara Jordan Award for Outstanding Volunteer Contribution & Philanthropy for donors who have shown philanthropic leadership in Central Texas; the Torch of Liberty Award given by the ADL in 2006; Outstanding Philanthropist of the Year given by the Association of Fundraising Professionals in 2004; and an Honorary Alumnus Award given by Leadership Austin in 2003.
