As of December 31, 1996, the company's operating companies had licenses covering an estimated 585 million people (POPs) which, based on the company's equity interests in these operating companies, represented an estimated 205 million equity POPs. As of December 31, 1996, the company's operating companies, which are generally in the early stages of operating and expandingtheir networks, served approximately 136,700 subscribers.
