news, local-news, Cowaramup Primary School's annual 'Buddy Day' gave students, teachers and staff an opportunity to connect and reflect on the Gracetown tragedy which claimed nine lives, 25 years ago today. On September 27, 1996, five adults and four children were killed in a cliff collapse at Huzza's during a rainstorm, as a surf competition between Margaret River and Cowaramup primary schools took place. Cowaramup PS Year 5/6 teacher Leesa Mathers said it was an important time for the school community. "It was so great to see the teachers, students and parents gather to remember and reflect this tragic event that happened 25 years ago," she said. "The day started with an assembly and an amazing choir performance. "All students from Kindy to Year 6 participated in a variety of indoor and outdoor activities - there were team-building games, mindful walks, a range of art activities, bowls, and story sharing." A sausage sizzle for all staff and students was generously organised by the school's P&C committee. "To see the students with big smiles and sharing their stories, makes it a special way to finish off the term," Ms Mathers said. "We are so fortunate to have such a supportive community." /images/transform/v1/crop/frm/wXRNchq95bZhpeysFncAhm/212314e9-66ee-492a-9064-ca4bc9afbcb6.png/r0_145_1542_1016_w1200_h678_fmax.jpg MORE GALLERIES Cowaramup Primary School's annual 'Buddy Day' gave students, teachers and staff an opportunity to connect and reflect on the Gracetown tragedy which claimed nine lives, 25 years ago today.
