Prince William Hugs, Exchanges Friendly Banter With Zara Tindall's Husband Mike

May 30, 2022

KEY POINTS Prince William reunited with Mike and Zara Tindall at the Houghton International Horse Trials in Norfolk, England The Duke of Cambridge was there to support his cousin Zara, who competed in the event Kate Middleton and their three children were missing from the outing Prince William and Mike Tindall, the husband of the royal's cousin Zara Tindall, had some fun catching up at a recent event. The Duke of Cambridge was in Norfolk, England, Sunday for the Houghton International Horse Trials in King's Lynn to support keen equestrian and former Olympian Zara, who competed at the event. In photos obtained by Daily Mail , the future king wore a brown jacket, blue jeans and a gray baseball cap for the outing. Mike was also dressed casually in a gray jacket, jeans and a cap. Prince William and the former pro rugby player were photographed laughing as they playfully bantered in front of Zara. The cousins-in-law ended their banter with a warm hug. The Tindalls' three children — Mia, 8, Lena, 3, and Lucas, 1 — were also present at the horse trials, with Mike and Zara's eldest daughter looking after her younger siblings. Mia was reportedly entrusted with money to pay for their rides at the funfair as their dad watched and cheered on their mom. Lucas was seen taking his first steps but was sometimes carried by his big sister Mia. The brother and sister enjoyed various rides, including the teacups. Lena, for her part, was seen grinning as she took to the funfair's bungee ride. Throughout their time in Norfolk, Mike was mindful of his children's safety and was seen stretching his arm out toward Lena as she bounced on the bungee ride. The Cambridges and the Tindalls  have a close bond. The two families were previously spotted together at the Burnham horse trials in Norfolk, near the Cambridge family's country home Anmer Hall, back in 2019. Photos from the outing showed Prince William with his goddaughter Mia on his shoulders, while Prince George perched on Mike's. Meanwhile, the Duchess of Cambridge gave her daughter, Princess Charlotte, a piggyback ride. During that outing, Prince George was photographed giving Zara a high-five. Zara also let the little royal, who was taking horse riding lessons, ride her pony. "William and Kate were really keen to get George riding – it's something all the royals do and the whole family adore animals. But obviously, he's only small so they didn't want to put him on a big horse," an unnamed source told Hello! magazine at the time. "They asked Zara if they could use one of her Shetland ponies and he's been learning to ride on one of those." Prince William's wife Kate Middleton and their three kids, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis, were noticeably missing from his latest outing. But earlier this year, Mike talked about the rugby skills Middleton showed during a training session at Twickenham Stadium in February, when she made her debut as the new royal patron of the Rugby Football Union and Rugby Football League. In an episode of "The Good, The Bad & The Rugby" podcast, Mike praised the duchess as a natural rugby player. "I text Ellis [Genge] and said, 'Mate, please tell me anything she messed up on,' so I could sort of… family WhatsApp group, get to her," Mike quipped. "And he said, 'No, she was actually pretty good, and she was really good at kicking,' and I was like [sigh]. But she has this competitive nature."
