Blankets Of Hope Is Spreading Warmth And Kindness This Holiday Season, And The Hot NFT Community Is Lending A Hand

Dec 20, 2021

Blankets of Hope Today begins the five-day Right-Click, Give! charity auction, the largest charity fundraising event in NFT history—and it brings together some well-known names: Gary Vaynerchuck’s VeeFriends, Tom Bilyeu’s Merry Modz , Warren Buffet’s granddaughter Nicole’s Spirit Coins plus 50 other global NFT brands like Cool Cats, CyberKongz, Doodles, Cutter/CatGang, PixelVault and World of Women. Gary Vaynerchuk's Gracious Grasshopper VeeFriends The first of its kind, the event raises money for Blankets of Hope , a charity that provides warm blankets to the homeless and teaches kindness and empathy to school age children. Event participants can bid on non-fungible tokens, or NFTs (unique digital collectibles), and 100% of the proceeds go to the charity. And the timing couldn’t be more perfect. The NFT market is soaring - sales volumes of NFTs were up eightfold last quarter to $10.7 billion. Blankets of Hope The fundraising event is the brainchild of Brooklyn natives and brothers, Nick and Mike Fiorito, founders of Blankets of Hope. Started as a simple, one-day family outing to provide warm blankets to local homeless New Yorkers, Blankets of Hope has evolved into a global movement. MORE FOR YOU Blankets of Hope Rather than simply provide blankets, the brothers wanted to teach future generations about kindness. Now, Blankets of Hope is an educational nonprofit that has gone into 500 schools in 43 states and three countries to teach and inspire students to think about kindness, empathy and community service. Participating schools receive a 30-minute course, or kindness workshop, comprised of three parts. First, students are asked to imagine what it feels like to be cold and homeless. Reflecting on those emotions, students write letters of hope (or, in the case of younger students, drawings.) Finally, students participate in a “loving kindness meditation” during which they send love to themselves, their classmates or needy members of their community. “Although it’s a 30-minute experience, the conversations can go on for months because there’s so much emotion attached to it,” says Nick. Students participating in Blankets of Hope's Kindness workshops Blankets of Hope The handwritten notes are attached to blankets (and sometimes other necessities) and sent, or hand delivered, to shelters. “As much as the blanket is awesome and represents a hug, the real special part about it is the human connection,” says Mike. “To us it’s just a blanket and a note. But to them it says that they are loved and that someone cares about them.” Blankets of Hope X NFT Community Both Mike and Nick are avid NFT collectors. Mike describes the entire NFT community as “loving and kind” and believes the industry acronym – WAGMI, or We’re All Gonna Make It -reflects the collaborative, not competitive, nature of the community. The brothers noticed that there was a charitable component of the industry missing. “What were people really doing to spread kindness?” Mike asked. And Right-Click, Give! was born. When the men reached out to the NFT community for support for their fundraiser, the response was immediate and overwhelming. Women #44, Yam Karkai World of Women World of Women creator and NFT artist Yam Karkai was happy to jump on board. “When Right-Click, Give! asked us if we would like to join their charity fundraising, we did not hesitate to participate. More than just finding a short-term solution to the problem, Blankets of Hope takes the time to educate and teach our kids to care for those that have been left aside by society.” Artist Nicole Buffett Nicole Buffett Buffett , an abstract painter who has found great success translating her physical works to NFTs, also quickly joined in. Raised with a love of giving inspired by her grandmother Susan T. Buffett, she says all of her collections are cause driven and she views her work as “artivism.” “I love Blankets of Hope because it connects with children and teaches empathy in the classroom. It’s very simple and very powerful.” Buffet has donated an NFT from her Spirit Coin collection, which she says represents a currency of change. Buyers of her NFTs also receive the physical version. “Our mission with Blankets of Hope is to inspire a global movement of kindness,” says Nick. With the help of the compassionate NFT community, the brothers are one step closer.
