Sezeryadigar/E+ via Getty Images Bradley L. Radoff and Etude Capital, who are among Hippo Holdings' (NYSE: HIPO ) 10 largest shareholders and hold nearly 2.5% of the insurance broker's outstanding shares, on Thursday urged Hippo's board to start a strategic review following a period of value destruction. "Since becoming a publicly traded entity in early 2021, Hippo has generated abysmal financial results and operated in an unsustainable manner," the shareholder group wrote in an open letter. In addition, the company should focus on disclosing "metrics that are critical to success as an insurer, such as book value and net income," instead of "giving meaningless non-GAAP guidance, like adjusted EBITDA." "Taking the right and necessary steps, in our view, could return $15-$20 in per share value," they added. HIPO closed Thursday's session at $9.41 a share, down 59.5% from a year ago. And, to help improve Hippo's ( HIPO ) governance going forward, the shareholder group wants the company to elect insurance industry veteran Jay Nichols Jr. as independent chair of the board.
