Indonesia Dealbook: HelloBeauty raises seed funding, Ruangguru gets grant

HelloBeauty application May 22, 2018 Indonesia beauty services marketplace and community HelloBeauty says it has raised an undisclosed amount of seed funding from local VC Nest Corp, while edutech company Ruangguru  has received another grant from SOLVE, a global initiative from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) to support innovation. HelloBeauty secures seed funding from Nest Corp Beauty services marketplace and community HelloBeauty has raised an undisclosed amount of seed funding from Indonesia-based venture capital firm Nest Corp, the startup has announced in a release. The HelloBeauty platform helps women find and book beauty professionals, while also helping beauty professionals enhance their online presence by giving them professional business tools to manage and grow their beauty business online. Founded by Dennish Tjandra and PradanaDyaksa, HelloBeauty claims to currently have more than 2,700 beauty professionals listed on its sites, with around 500 beauty artists of them as premium members who are paid on a yearly basis. The startup says it is currently focused on the development of its product for beauty artists that can be used via a membership or subscription model. The company will also be launching its mobile app version soon to follow its existing web-based version. Ruangguru receives another SOLVE grant Edutech startup Ruangguru announced that it has received another grant from SOLVE, a global initiative from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) to support innovation. In an official statement, Ruangguru explained that the funding is a continuation from the first round of grant given by the same programme last year in New York. The grant itself originated from the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade dan Atlassian Foundation International. Established in 2014, Ruangguru focuses on providing services across a wide range of education verticals. It offers its own learning management system targeted at elementary, middle, and high school students in Indonesia. Ruangguru also offers learning video subscriptions, private tutoring marketplace, on-demand in-app tutoring services, online exam simulation and others. The startup, which raised a Series B funding last year, is backed by a number of investors including UOB Venture Management, Venturra Capital and East Ventures. Ruangguru co-founder Iman Usman said that the second round of the SOLVE grant will be used to develop content related to basic employability skills and workplace readiness. Also Read:
