About Harsh Environment Applied Technologies

Harsh Environment Applied Technologies is a company that received a Department of Defense SBIR/STTR grant for a project entitled: Binocular Multispectral Adaptive Imaging System (BMAIS). The abstract given for this project is as follows: Currently, pilots in the Air Force do not have a visualization system that enables day/night/adverse weather operations. Instead, fielded day and night vision technologies are not integrated and do not meet the requirements of the pilots under many illumination conditions. The primary goal of HEAT Inc. is to design and then develop a revolutionary pilot HMD visualization system that enables day/night/adverse weather operations by leveraging prior experience and technologies from HEAT Inc.s development of SWIR Monocular and ADM NVG systems for USSOCOM as well as HEAT Inc.s work within the DARPA MISI program.BENEFIT:The proposed design for a HMD visualization system that enables day/night/adverse weather operations can be applied to multiple commercial applications. HEAT Inc. believes there is a significantly sized military and commercial market requiring such a visualization system. Two major commercial applications are: 1. Homeland Security Operations Homeland Security operations such as coastal and border patrol require such a system to enable a pilot to operate during the day, night and during adverse weather conditions. For coastal and border patrols, Homeland Security pilots have a significant need to increase their situational awareness in all possible conditions. 2. Commercial Aircraft Operations Just as an Air Force pilot needs to have increased perception and situational awareness in all day/night conditions, a commercial aircraft pilot needs the same. Such a system could be used by commercial pilots to increase their field of view, perception and situational awareness.
