China Business News, 2/22/11 Wang Hang, founder of Beijing-based online healthcare firm Hudong Feng Technology, which operates website Hao Daifu (Haodf.com), recently disclosed the company is considering raising another round of funding within the next two months. The company received its first round of RMB 3 mln angel investment in 2007 from angel investor Lei Jun and Ceyuan Ventures. In summer 2008 Hudong Feng received another USD 3 mln from Doll Capital Management. Wang previously co-founded Chinese online search engine 3721 with Chinese online security software developer Qihoo 360 (NYSE: QIHU) CEO Zhou Hongyi. After selling 3721 to Yahoo China in 2003, Wang and Zhou both joined Yahoo China. Wang later was part of the original team behind Qihoo, leaving in May 2006 to found Hao Daifu. Hao Daifu provides three main services: information inquiry, expert consulting, and telephone appointment and consulting services. At present, Hao Daifu only charges a fee for telephone consulting services and splits the revenue with the consulting physician. Hao Daifu's list of participating physicians has grown from 50,000 in late 2006 to reach more than 250,000, and the site has enabled doctors to create their own homepages in order to interact with patients. Haodf's appointment services allow patients to book online and receive SMS confirmation that they can use when they arrive at the hospital. More than 5,000 doctors currently participate in the service. In order to help patients find proper medical care, Hao Daifu has established a 60-plus person consulting team drawn mostly from partner hospitals and Peking University Health Science Center. Visitors to the site can request aid from the team in finding the appropriate doctor for their condition. As the website enters its fifth year of operations, Wang is considering monetizing the site and the board of directors has just appointed a CEO to tackle the issue. The company plans to generate revenue both from patient fees and from assisting pharmaceutical companies in educating consumers about prescription drugs for serious illnesses, although advertising for prescription medicine is currently illegal. Wang also hopes to partner with overseas pharmaceutical companies, for example acting as an intermediary to help find patients for clinical trials in China.
