Greenfields machete attack: co-accused face court again

May 12, 2022

Telissa RyderMandurah Coastal Times The two Mandurah men accused of severing another man’s hand with a machete during a group assault in Greenfields have had their matters remanded once again in court. Aiden John Schneider, 20, appeared in Mandurah Magistrates Court via video link on Tuesday after the matter was first adjourned on April 12. Mr Schneider is facing seven charges, including grievous bodily harm, aggravated armed robbery, possession of stolen or unlawfully obtained property and willfully destroy evidence. His lawyer Scarlett Reynolds appeared via audio link, asking the magistrate for a further five-week adjournment to finalise instructions. Mr Schneider is accused of being involved in the group assault of a 41-year-old man on March 21, in which part of his hand and some of his fingers were severed with a machete and mobile phone was stolen. Magistrate Leanne Atkins accepted the adjournment, repeating the details to Mr Schneider. “You will be remanded a further five weeks for legal advice, do you understand Mr Schneider?” she said. “Bail will not be considered today.” Mr Schneider will next face court on June 14. His co-accused, Aiden Anthony Clarke, 21, also appeared via video link later that day, facing charges of aggravated armed robbery, grievous bodily harm, possess a prohibited drug (cannabis) and possession of LSD with the intent to sell/supply. Mr Clarke’s stand-in lawyer, who was meant to fill in for Kathryn Westerside, was scheduled to appear via audio link but was unavailable. Ms Atkins said the matter would be stood down until 2.15pm, when they would once again attempt to contact the lawyer. The matter was later adjourned until May 17.
