Today in company updates: iComplyICO announces new advisors, League of Innovators acquires GradusOne | #VentureCanvas

Dec 12, 2017

Aeman Ansari | Beta Kit In the past few weeks, several Canadian startups have made announcements and launched new features. Here’s the latest on Canada’s movers and shakers. Past president of BC Premier’s Technology Council and CFA instructor join iComplyICO’s advisory council iComplyICO,  a regulatory technology platform, has announced that Darren Degraaf and Jim Mutter have joined its advisory council. Degraaf is an adjunct Professor of Finance at the University of British Columbia (UBC). Mutter is the owner of Whiteboard Law, a boutique business law firm, and was previously president of The Premier’s Technology Council for three years, and served on the board of directors for companies such as QHR Technologies and Vecima Networks. “Jim and Darren have been critical contributors to our success, we are fortunate to have their insights, experience and strategy. Darren’s deep knowledge of the CFA, ethics, and financial education coupled with Jim’s expertise in digital corporate governance, development and quantum technology will prove vital as iComplyICO lays the foundation for a compliance layer over the Internet of value,” said Matthew Unger, CEO and founder of iComplyICO. After the  SEC ruling that ICOs may be deemed securities and subject to federal securities laws, ICO investments came to a halt. iComplyICO has worked to engage local and international legislative and regulatory bodies, and legal, accounting and assurance firms, to encourage a system that allows the use of ICO to raise capital in a more efficient, secure, and traceable way. The company also announced that it opened its seed round of funding. League of Innovators acquires GradusOne GradusOne, a Vancouver-based non-profit focused on helping youth under 25 build business skills, has been acquired by League of Innovators (LOI). This partnership aims to expand the reach and impact of work related to youth innovation and education. “GradusOne’s goal has always been to elevate career and leadership opportunities for youth in Vancouver,” said Manny Padda, the founder of GradusOne. “By merging with League of Innovators, we’re expanding our reach nationally and accelerating our impact on innovation and entrepreneurship in Canada.” Ryan Holmes, LOI and Hootsuite founder, believes that joining forces will allow LOI programming to impact a bigger audience through programming in Vancouver, Calgary, and Toronto. As a part of the merger, GradusOne will contribute assets and its staff to League of Innovators, and GradusOne’s Padda will join the Board of Directors. LOI plans to host workshops with post-secondary schools and renowned organizations such as WE and Microsoft events across BC, Calgary, Toronto, and Boston.
