Intertek acquires Global X-Ray & Testing Corporation (GXT)

Oct 3, 2013

October 03, 2013 05:00 AM Eastern Daylight Time LONDON--( BUSINESS WIRE )--Intertek Group plc (Intertek), the leading international provider of quality and safety services to a wide range of industries, announces that it has acquired Global X-Ray & Testing Corporation (GXT), a leading provider of non-destructive testing (NDT) services to the oil and gas industries. GXT offers a wide range of NDT services across all stages of the oil and gas infrastructure life cycle from construction to operation and maintenance to decommissioning. NDT services are vital in helping prevent loss of productivity through unplanned shutdowns which may occur if materials, products or equipment fail to achieve projected life span or their design requirements. These services comprise of radiography and visual inspection; ultrasonics, mechanical integrity analysis and weld stress relief heat treatment. The majority of the services offered by GXT are performed within fabrication yards for oil and gas equipment that are bound for new infrastructure or platform upgrades. In addition to providing regulatory maintenance inspection to oil and gas offshore platforms, refineries and processing plants, GXT also perform NDT for new onshore and offshore pipeline connections from facilities near oil and gas shale plays, such as the Bakken shale basin as well as the Permian and Eagle Ford basins. With 295 staff headquartered in Morgan City, Louisiana, USA, GXT highly complements Intertek’s existing technical inspection and asset integrity management (AIM) services to customers in the oil, gas and petrochemical sectors within the USA. Strong alignment with Intertek’s AIM business allows customers to benefit from a complete service solution to meet all their infrastructure compliance and inspection needs through the addition of NDT services to Intertek’s existing service offering. Stefan Butz, Group Executive Vice President of Intertek’s Industry & Assurance division said: “With an established presence across all key stages of the oil and gas supply chain, Global X-ray and Testing is ideally placed to provide our clients with in-demand NDT solutions that complement our existing portfolio of industrial inspection and asset integrity management services. I am pleased to welcome GXT to Intertek as an important addition in extending our global capabilities in industrial non-destructive testing and enable us to provide a more complete solution offering that meets the technical quality and safety needs of our clients.” NDT is a technique used to help assure safety and reliability through detection of any flaws or defects in product or industrial components such as pipelines, power stations, refineries and oil platforms, without disrupting operations or delaying processes. Demand for this service has grown, driven by increasing regulation and standardization, extending asset lifespans and the need to protect reputation from product failure.
