How GliaCloud Use its AI to Help Local Digital Transformation Prompted by the Pandemic

Apr 13, 2021

Published First of all, how are you and your family doing in these COVID-19 times? Daniel Michaeli: Thanks for asking; we are very privileged; our daily life is not so different from pre-pandemic days because the situation here in Taiwan is under-control. However, we are aware of the global situations and will continue to work with our international business partners online while hoping to meet them in person in the near future. Tell us about you, your career, and how you founded GliaCloud. Daniel Michaeli: Based in NCTU AI Lab in Taiwan, my strong passion for programming has led me to publish several AI-related papers in International journals and become recognized as one of the Google Cloud Developer Experts. Before GliaCloud, I co-founded a startup and built the first programmatic advertising system in Taiwan. I then felt AI can do much more and started my innovation journey. In 2015, I co-founded GliaCloud, an AI video solution provider empowering the media and advertising industry to turn their stories into videos with professionalism and ease. Along with our brilliant founding members, we wanted to explore AI’s possibility in content-creation, maximize the synergy between humans and technology, and ultimately provide a solution that can enrich people’s lives and make communication easier! How does GliaCloud innovate? Daniel Michaeli: While content creation is a highly human-centered skill, GliaCloud’s core technology is AI. AI is not created to replace humans but is instead used to assist, adjust and enhance working progress, thus maximizing the value of human work. GliaCloud’s mission is to “make communication easy” and help users both with and without digital skills to create content, especially for publishers, advertisers, and e-commerce. We are a data-driven content creation platform, and we advance our technology based on the market’s feedback, including our customers and video viewers. Aside from satisfying the current needs, we will also continue to explore AI’s possibility in content-creation, expanding our AI from video creation to web stories and even animations! How the coronavirus pandemic affects your business, and how are you coping? Daniel Michaeli: Our businesses actually doubled in 2020. Along with the coronavirus outbreak, it is crucial for SMBs, especially local export businesses which relied on matchmaking events and exhibitions to digitize their contents. We see this situation as a digital transformation opportunity for local businesses. Our role here is to offer video creation solutions with online exposure chances to strengthen brands’ digital presence and attract potential overseas buyers. What specific tools, software, and management skills are you using to navigate this crisis? Daniel Michaeli: Content digitization is on-demand, but manual video production is hard to scale up, especially when our local clients had limited budgets, digital literacy, and advertising resources. In order to provide services to thousands of business owners, we set up user-friendly content collection forms with auto-fills API, structuralize video contents, and automate the creation processes. With the help of AI, we were able to cover up the none fully automate parts with very little human resources, at a ratio of 2 consultants to 1100 clients. Has there been a shift in your business direction, and what are the lessons learned? Daniel Michaeli: Originally, GliaCloud aims to offer solutions to highly digitalized groups, such as online publishers and advertisers. As we continue to work with our media partners and clients, we are shocked but delighted to learn that our solution can also help to perform a digital transformation. We found this opportunity inspiring as we explored a new application of our service, and the pool of our potential clients expanded. With AI technology in hand, GliaCloud not only thrives to leverage content creation but also makes AI more accessible and supportive to the less digitized groups. Who are your competitors? And how do you plan to stay in the game? Daniel Michaeli: We consider Wibbitz from Israel and Open8 from Japan as our competitors. AI content creation has a huge potential in the market as there are growing needs for digitalization globally, and we are thrilled to be a part of this innovation. GliaCloud has received many recognition and awards throughout the years. The most recent one is “Taiwan SMEs Innovation Award” from the government. Although rooting in Taiwan, we have investors from Japan and Korea and business partners in other Asian countries. We are also the only AI video creation platform that supports multiple languages in Asia, including Mandarin, English, Japanese, Korean, Vietnamese, and more to come! GliaCloud is ready to expand our business landscape, and we will continue to advance our technology to keep up with the market. Your website?
