These recruits will be employed as a Broking Partner Designate, with the next move they make being into that of insurance business owner. During the 22 months in which they are employed by Gauntlet, they get their business plan, client base and sales and marketing tactics in place and test the waters of self-employment. “This is the ‘try before you fly programme that has captured the imagination’,” says Roger Gaunt. “It’s a win-win for both us and the account exec. They can get their business shaped, honed and up and running before actually becoming self-employed and we can train our future AR broker partners in all of the successful strategies we have worked on for many years. This gives them the best possible chance of success, once they do become Appointed Representatives of Gauntlet Group.”
The Gauntlet Appointed Representative Network management team and Gauntlet’s direct insurance sales team together mentor Gauntlet Brokerage Builder programme entrants. Their support and expertise takes the prospective start-up broker progress to a stage where they are market-ready, after the 22 months has been completed. TARGETS
On the way, the Broking Partner Designate has to hit set income generation targets and other milestones, proving they have what it takes to become self-sufficient in income generation terms. Achieving some milestones assures Gauntlet that the candidate can do more than just ‘sell’ and has good business acumen. If all targets and milestones are met, the candidate is offered an Appointed Representative opportunity with Gauntlet Group at the end of the 22 months. In some cases, depending on their experience, it could be sooner. “We are uniquely placed to offer this opportunity, because no other AR network has a direct sales team that can nurture a future start-up broker and help them with lead generation and sales strategies,” says Gaunt. With the second tranche of recruitment now open, Gauntlet expects to receive applications from account executives based across the UK. They can work from their own home, receiving support via video conferencing, email and phone calls. Gauntlet sees the programme as another major step in the local broker renaissance it has spearheaded for the past two years. As a result of its strategies and support, its network is thriving and growing fast, with recruitment continuous, whether through the traditional AR route, Gauntlet Brokerage Builder, or Gauntlet De-authorisation Fast-track (GDF). GDF was another groundbreaking move by Gauntlet, which has come to the rescue of smaller directly authorised brokers who wanted to de-authorise and become ARs. This has freed them of the stress of handling compliance, accounting and IT, whilst also providing sales support, PI insurance and many other services. Such has been the rebirth that two of these brokers took the AR of the Year and New AR of the Year awards at Gauntlet’s annual AR Awards, in October 2023. “It would be fantastic if, next year or the year after, these titles could go to those who have come to us through the Gauntlet Brokerage Builder route,” adds Gaunt. “If you are ambitious and tired of working for other people, this is a great option. Gauntlet , a crypto-native financial risk management solutions provider, has launched a new research division and received a grant from the Uniswap Foundation. The new division, Gauntlet Applied Research, aims to address the most pressing challenges within the crypto space by offering protocols custom quantitative analysis, modelling, and optimisation, enhancing its existing capabilities within risk management decentralised finance. For its first initiative, it has secured a grant from the Uniswap Foundation to review and recommend incentive program optimisations for the Uniswap Protocol. Uniswap funds and supports work that looks to further the development and growth of the DeFi ecosystem. The Uniswap Protocol is a decentralised cryptocurrency exchange that leverages smart contracts to execute trades. With over 4,000 decentralised autonomous organisations (DAOs) in existence, Gauntlet claims the demand for organising community members around one central mission has increased. Gauntlet Applied Research was created to pair the company’s modelling and simulation platform with a dedicated research team to address challenges related to how DAOs operate and grow. Gauntlet co-founder and CEO Tarun Chitra said, “In an effort to support the crypto ecosystem, we want a wider range of protocols to be able to access our leading financial modelling platform, team, and experience. “There are many dimensions to operating a protocol well, and DAOs must proactively address a broad set of economic issues to ensure success. Gauntlet Applied Research will be able to draw on our proven success in crypto-native economic research and our methodologies, to help DAOs address these issues.”
The initial project will explore how incentive programs would impact the Uniswap Protocol’s users’ behaviours and how the Uniswap community can align and execute on shared objectives. The deliverables for the project will follow a three-step plan to evaluate, test, and recommend incentive program archetypes for the community to consider. The first deliverable is a quantitative framework for the Uniswap community to use in judging the success of the Uniswap Protocol as a whole. This framework would include a theoretical economic analysis of the Uniswap Protocol from the perspective of UNI token holders as well as include a methodology to evaluate the current and future net present value of protocol revenue based on the growth and market share of the Uniswap Protocol. Deliverable two is a historical analysis of LP and trader cohorts in response to evolving market conditions and prices. This will leverage insights from the Gauntlet platform and existing research to forecast how traders and LPs would respond to incentive programs. The final deliverable is a list of three potential incentive program archetypes. This evaluation will explore trade-offs between incentives and culminate in a final recommendation for which type of initiative will most likely be a success. Eight defendants named in the lawsuit
The San Francisco-based DeFi lending platform was named in the suit alongside its co-founders, Robert Leshner and Geoffrey Hayes, as well as investment firms Andreesen Horowitz, Paradigm Operations, Gauntlet Networks, Polychain, and Bain Capital. Together, these firms have put more than $33 million into Compound since its founding in 2017. The three complainants, Susan Franklin, Charles Douglas, and Amanda Houghton claimed they incurred financial losses from buying COMP tokens, which they described as unregistered and unqualified. They also stated that the DAO and its stakeholders are in charge of selling COMP tokens as unlicensed securities. COMP failed to live up to its promise
According to the three, the defendants made false and misleading claims about the possibility of profiting from COMP token holdings, whereas in truth, retail COMP buyers have generally fared poorly. COMP’s value peaked in May 2021 at nearly $500 per token, resulting in a total market capitalization of around $4 billion. The plaintiffs stated that COMP’s value had dropped by 90% in the year preceding the filing of the class action suit, and it currently has a market capitalization of about $278 million. According to the suit, Susan Franklin bought $2 worth of COMP in 2021, when the token was priced at $230. Charles Douglas, for his part, purchased $75 worth of COMP in early 2022 when it was around $130. He claims to have sold part of his holding at a loss while retaining a small fraction. The third plaintiff, Amanda Houghton, bought $3 worth of COMP in November 2022, when the token went for $42. She also received a further $9 worth of COMP from a Coinbase Earn promotion, bringing the total COMP holdings of the three to about $89. Compound DAO controlled by few insiders
Compound DAO, alongside the other listed defendants, holds 51.56% of the COMP currently in circulation. The lawsuit claimed that Compound DAO’s assertion of “community governance” via COMP tokens was a sham since the system was skewed to “ensure insiders kept control of the business into the distant future.”
According to the plaintiffs, the COMP token’s initial supply schedule was the genesis of the unfair distribution system. They allege the system was designed to ensure “founders and team,” “shareholders,” and “future team members” will altogether hold more than 57% of outstanding COMP supply when the token is fully distributed. According to the lawsuit, holding that many governance tokens will give the insiders effective control of the DAO indefinitely.

The Economic Safety Grade measures the risk of insolvency for protocols that lend user-supplied collateral. The new tool could help guide investors to safer DeFi investments and appeal to less-experienced users. Crypto investors have a new reference point for evaluating decentralized finance projects, thanks to a new risk indicator from DeFi Pulse. DeFi Pulse announced on Tuesday the release of the DeFi Pulse Economic Safety Grade, developed in partnership with blockchain simulation platform Gauntlet Networks, to give users a way to better understand the risks they’re taking when locking value in DeFi protocols. The Economic Safety Grade is calculated on a scale from 0 to 100 and measures a protocol’s risk of insolvency, with higher scores indicating a safer investment. It’s another sign of an industry working to break into the mainstream and become more accessible to novice users. DeFi, short for decentralized finance, is an emerging industry based on a variety of blockchain-based protocols that use code known as smart contracts to provide financial services like loans or interest. Instead of relying on centralized third-parties like traditional banks, DeFi protocols use value contributed by users in the form of cryptocurrency deposits to provide financial services; users receive interest income in return. DeFi Pulse has become one of the leading indicators for tracking the growth of DeFi and identifying quality protocols, using blockchain data to measure the total amount of value locked (TVL) in DeFi protocols and providing basic information about projects’ functionality. The DeFi Pulse Economic Safety Grade measures the risk of protocols becoming insolvent—that is, when the value of contributed collateral is less than the total value of all loans that have been issued. If a protocol becomes insolvent, users that have contributed cryptocurrency to be used by the project are at risk of getting back less crypto then they put in, or, in a worst-case scenario, none at all.
