About GATR Technologies

GATR Technologies develops deployable, inflatable SatCom antenna systems that aim to provide quick deployment and high-bandwidth communications in remote, hard-to-reach areas. This patented inflatable antenna design aims to allow for a wider aperture (thereby reducing satellite transfer costs) without the added bulk and weight associated with rigid deployable systems. When deflated, the antennas are small enough to fit in the trunk of a small vehicle, and they can even be shipped (non-freight) using a carrier such as Federal Express, thereby reducing shipping costs. Recently, the antennas have demonstrated their usefulness in a variety of other applications, such as emergency/disaster response, Media/Entertainment, and military applicatons.

Cubic Satellite Gear Deal Worth Up to $172M

Aug 6, 2020

The U.S. Special Operations Command announced on Aug. 3 that it awarded the GATR Technologies subsidiary of Cubic Corp. a five-year, indefinite delivery, indefinite quality contract that could be worth as much as $172 million. Under the deal, the command plans to buy 1.2 meter and 2.4 meter Ground Antenna Transmit and Receive (GATR) satellite communications terminals and ancillary equipment. Satellite dishes for the GATR system are inflatable, and resemble beach balls. The dish inside the spherical structure holds its parabolic shape when blown up. The structure deflates for transportation in a carrying case. The majority of work under the new contract will be performed in Huntsville, Alabama and is expected to be completed by August 2025. Cubic is based in Kearny Mesa. The contract is a Phase III Small Business Innovation Research award.
