The original Star Wars: Battlefront now has multiplayer on Steam

May 1, 2020

No, it's not the 2015 DICE game, the original Battlefront since 2004. This new update, which is only for the Steam version of the game, since the other platforms it was released on was PlayStation 2 and Xbox, adds the online multiplayer mode. The original release of Battlefront It also had multiplayer, which could be played through a local area connection, using GameSpy's servers on PS2 or PC, or on Xbox Live on the original Xbox. Battlefront was relaunched on Steam in 2019, as Star Wars: Battlefront (Classic, 2004) But since GameSpy closed long before that in 2014, there was no multiplayer option apart from custom solutions. The original PC version supported up to 64 players, which according to Steam Charts is almost double the average player count for the Steam version, but it's not clear how big the games can make this time. Despite the game approaching two decades at this point, this is the second update that the Steam version has received since its launch in 2019. Vox Media has affiliate associations.
