Jul 23, 2011

Google+ has acquired Fridge, a startup which developed a social network that allowed users to organize their friends into groups, share photos, and plan events. | Topic: Banking Google has acquired Fridge , a startup which developed a social network that allowed users to organize their friends into groups, share photos, and plan events. If that concept sounds familiar, then you're probably not surprised to hear that Fridge's team will be going to work on making Google+ Circles even better. At Google+, Fridge's blog entry says that the team will continue some of their efforts. In the meanwhile, the 40,000 current Fridge users have until Saturday, August 20, 2011 at 6pm ET, to extract their data before it all gets deleted. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. Details on what features, exactly, Fridge is going to bring to the Google+ table are still hazy. But a Business Insider report indicates that Fridge could finally bring the much-desired groups functionality to Google+ in the form of shared circles. And high on this blogger's personal list of features that Google+ needs to thrive in the longterm is the kind of event planning that Fridge appears to have built into its social network. Overall, it sounds like a match made in social network heaven, with many potential benefits for Google+'s twenty million users . And I'm definitely curious to see what Fridge's team gets up to at Google+. Join Discussion
