How you can get free energy with EDF, Scottish Power, British Gas and more with new deals These latest deals will save you hundreds ahead of the energy price hike 14:01, 14 SEP 2021 Energy bills are about to go up but there are ways you can save (Image: Getty) A number of deals which will help consumers save hundreds on their energy bills have become available ahead of the price hike next month. The deals come as gas and electricity will cost more for 15 million homes in October due to the price cap rising on out-of-contract energy tariffs. Last month Ofgem, the energy regulator, confirmed that a new cap rate of £1,277 will take effect from October 1, meaning t he typical customer is likely to see their energy bill for gas and electricity go up by £139. The cap is a limit on the unit rate and standing charge that energy suppliers can charge for their standard variable - or 'default' - tariffs. The rate is set by Ofgem and is reviewed twice a year. It means energy companies can raise the prices of their price-capped deals, and many have announced they will. However, there are a number of ways you can avoid the costly price hikes and these below deals with TopCashback will help you save hundreds in the long-run.
