Finch Launches Tech & Innovation Company Nakatomi THIS Trans-Tasman production company Finch has announced it has set up a new innovation, venture and post-production driven business, Nakatomi. Since founding in 2011, the technology department has been fundamental to Finch’s offering, but after seven years, and working in a rapidly changing industry, it’s time for Nakatomi to forge its own path. Based on the ethos of constant evolution, Nakatomi will be expanding on its technology and post-production offerings to drive innovation in applied and interactive tech through machine learning specialists, developers, VFX and concept artists, and mechatronic and software engineers. Drawing on skills from storytelling, filmmaking and engineering, Nakatomi will develop its own experiences, products and services that exist at the cutting edge of technology. The company was the tech partner behind the D&AD Black Pencil-winning ‘Most Powerful Arm’, MONA’s ‘Moo Brew Roulette’, the Australian Defence Force’s VR ‘Category 5’ game, the Kraken VR game, and the Steve Waugh Foundation’s ‘Riderless Bike’, as well as VFX work for such brands as Meat & Livestock Australia, BP, WorkSafe, IKEA and Red Cross. Nakatomi will be headed up by managing director Emad Tahtouh (pictured above), creative director Andy Timms and executive producer Kent Boswell. Finch will continue to focus on advertising and entertainment, as well as pioneering innovations such as Creatable (a STEM education syllabus for high school girls) and The Lion’s Share (a partnership with the United Nations where animals earn money for their image usage rights to protect their habitat and welfare).
