Oct 04, 2021 AEP and the City of Columbus announced that they will purchase all of the electricity from a 50-megawatt solar farm currently under construction. The site is located on a closed landfill. The deal will allow the city to provide local, Ohio-based clean energy to power its homes and small businesses by 2023. For the first five years, or through December 2027, the power will be used only by the city's municipal green-energy aggregation program, whose power is being supplied by AEP. Beginning in 2028, the city's electric utility, the Columbus Division of Power, will start purchasing half of the solar farm's power. Read the complete story here .
