EyeMD EMR Healthcare Systems, a provider of Electronic Medical Records (EMR) software for ophthalmologists, announced it will be introducing Edge Computing at the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery (ASCRS) Annual Meeting in Las Vegas. The Edge Computing Service is a feature of EyeMD EMR’s Fog Architecture that allows remote offices to securely experience real-time imaging and document performance without requiring an on premise imaging/data server or VPN. “Edge Computing is yet another exclusive revolutionary technology that we have introduced into the space in order to meet the demands of high-volume ophthalmology clinics,” Abdiel Marin, CEO of EyeMD EMR, said in a company news release. “This coupled with other exclusive technologies like our Fog Architecture and Server Sync provide solutions that browser-based systems simply cannot offer.” Edge Computing increases provider productivity by overcoming imaging performance issues caused by internet bandwidth limitations. High-resolution images from devices like a fundus cameras and wide-field OCT are stored and displayed instantly regardless of whether the data is hosted on premise, in a remote office, with a 3rd party hosting provider, or on the cloud. “The introduction of this technology is a game-changer.” said EyeMD EMR Vice President of Sales Gus Savloff. “We now have a comprehensive solution for any type of practice. Browser-based solutions are not a one size fits all solution. Many practices are still not comfortable having all of their critical data in the possession of a single vendor. Other mission critical practices cannot absorb the performance issues and risk of outages inherent with browser-based solutions.
