This is achieved through use of large, well-positioned windows. In the great room, alone, there is a series of tall front-facing windows and two boxed-shaped frames, which flank an elongated fireplace, on the side wall. This is just a few steps away from another large window in the dining area. This combination floods the open-concept space with natural light. A partial wall creates visual distinction between the dining area and great room without interrupting its flow and dispersion of sunshine. The position of the dining area makes it easy to expand and contract based on the needs of the household at that time. For instance, a table with an extension leaf can be added to accommodate a substantial get-together, such as a holiday meal. In addition to its central island, the rear-facing cooking space boasts long stretches of counterspace. This means everyone can lend a hand with dinner and not feel crowded. The kitchen is shown with a full-height subway tile backsplash and stainless steel appliances, including a chimney-style hoodfan and fridge with french doors. Its sinks sits beneath a window that overlooks the backyard. There’s also a spacious walk-in pantry, limiting the chance of clutter and disorganization. The second storey has two children’s bedrooms side by side overlooking the front yard and the master bedroom at the back. Reaching 13 feet five inches by 11 feet 10 inches, the master continues this home’s emphasis on natural light with windows on multiple walls. The show home presented a side entrance and developed basement. For people who rent the basement to offset mortgage payments, the side entrance, which offers direct access to the basement, lets the tenant enter the home without walking through the main level. This basement is shown with a bedroom, bathroom and rec area. There’s also a sink, counterspace, cabinets, dishwasher and fridge. In addition to a tenant, this setup would fit the needs of a teenager or adult child living at home. The home is stocked with a host of sustainable features, including an Ecobee smart thermostat, dual pane low-E windows, a heat recovery ventilator and 96 per cent high efficiency furnace, among others. In this case, E stands for emissivity, a measure of energy loss. Cobblestone Creek positions residents near an array of spaces in which to enjoy the fresh air, including Chinook Windows Regional Park. It is also near a number of commercial amenities, such as a Sobeys grocery store, and Soros Lounge, both of which are about five minutes by car away. THE DETAILS BUILDER: Excel Homes.
