Boeing bought ETS Aviation of the U.K. Boeing photo Boeing Co. is considering whether to protest the U.S. Air Force's award of a $55 billion bomber contract to competitor Northrop Grumman Corp. Secretary of Defense Ash Carter, in a Pentagon press briefing at the end of the day Tuesday, said the Northrop Grumman team won the contract to build up to 100 advanced bombers because the company had delivered a better proposal than the Boeing (NYSE: BA)-Lockheed Martin (NYSE: LMT) team. Boeing bought ETS Aviation of the U.K. Boeing photo Chris Chadwick , president and chief executive of Boeing Defense Space and Security, said in a staff memo obtained by Reuters that the company is waiting to have further discussions with the Air Force before making a decision on the protest, adding that a decision is likely within two weeks. "The Long Range Strike-Bomber program is of vital importance to our customer and to this nation, so we will rigorously deliberate whether to protest this award," Chadwick said. Boeing and Lockheed Martin issued a joint statement soon after the contract award saying they would be considering their next step. “We are interested in knowing how the competition was scored in terms of price and risk, as we believe that the combination of Boeing and Lockheed Martin offers unparalleled experience, capability and resources for this critically important recapitalization program,” the statement said.
