Photo Credit: Valentine Pedoussat/Eole project, SNCF Reseau CONTRACTORS Eiffage and TSO announced on June 26 that they had completed tracklaying and the installation of 25kV 50Hz ac electrification on the extension of Paris RER Line E from Haussmann-Saint Lazare to Nanterre-La Folie. Executed under a contract worth €144m, the work forms part of the East-West Express Link (Eole) project, whose major component has been the construction of an 8km tunnel from Haussmann-Saint Lazare in the centre of Paris to Nanterre in the western suburbs. The overhead power supply system was energised by infrastructure manager SNCF Network almost exactly four years after tracklaying and electrification had started. TSO, Eiffage Rail, TSO Caténaires and Sages Rail have laid 28km of track, and have installed 16km of rigid catenary in the tunnel section as well as 12km of standard catenary in the Nanterre area. Inauguration of the RER Line E extension to Nanterre will take place later this year, enabling trains from the eastern suburbs to run through to Nanterre, serving new intermediate stations at Porte Maillot and the La Défense business district. At a later date Line E will be connected to the main line to Mantes-la-Jolie, currently served by SNCF Voyageurs commuter trains from the surface station at Saint Lazare.
