EN Technologies Passes Korea Electrical Safety Corporation’s Before Use Inspection

May 8, 2019

etnews May 08, 2019 While South Korea’s ESS (Energy Storage System) industry has struggled due to continuous fire accidents involving ESS and delay in investigation for causes of fire accidents, it will be interesting to see whether a South Korean small and medium business will start restoration process of South Korea’s ESS ecosystem, which has come to a stop since last December, as it passed Korea Electrical Safety Corporation’s before use inspection. EN Technologies announced that its 100kW all-in-one ESS, which is expected to be released in June, for solar power plants passed Korea Electrical Safety Corporation’s before use inspection on the 3rd of this month. South Korean Government greatly tightened up before use inspection by revising electrical equipment standards last December due to continuous fire accidents involving ESS. However, South Korea’s ESS industry has struggled since as there has been zero ESS equipment that passed Korea Electrical Safety Corporation’s before use inspection. EN Technologies’ ESS equipment is the first one to pass Korea Electrical Safety Corporation’s before use inspection. EN Technologies’ 100kW all-in-one ESS is based on General Electric’s PCS (Power Conversion System) and LG Chem’s battery. This is the first time EN Technologies is preparing to release 100kW ESS when it had focused on new renewable energy market. Through its 100kW all-in-one ESS, it is going to target small markets that received direct blow due to fire accidents involving ESS and especially 100kW ESS market for solar power plants. <EN Technologies’ 100kW all-in-one ESS for solar power plants (Picture = EN Technologies)> “We hope that our 100kW all-in-one ESS will open up small ESS markets for solar power plants.” said Director Park Soo-yong of EN Technologies’ ESS Business Team. “We expect that our 100kW ESS will restore ESS markets for solar power plants once again.” EN Technologies received spotlight when it was placed first from Korea Electric Power Corporation’s amplitude modulation ESS project, which was South Korea’s first major ESS project launched in 2014, based on technology assessment. It has been targeting ESS market after it recently signed a contract with GE regarding solar inverter and PCS. It earned a major 100MW solar project through its partnership with a major South Korean corporation and it is also pushing for additional projects as well. It also successfully completed construction of Sungkyunkwan University’s Smart Energy Campus. It is also pushing for production of 3MW inverter and 3MW all-in-one power station that integrates nearby electric equipment into 20-feet container along with GE to react to domestic and foreign solar markets that have recently started to push for larger products. Through its partnership with GE, it is also considering overseas expansion as well. Staff Reporter Jung, Hyunjung | iam@etnews.com
