Third-party logistics startup Emiza has bagged $4.5 million from Mayfield

Emiza Supply Chain Services, a Mumbai-based logistic start-up has raised $4.5 million, (around Rs. 30 crores), in a funding round which was led by Mayfield — a Silicon Valley-based venture capital firm. Many early-stage investors such as Nishant Rao (Outgoing chief operating officer, Freshdesk) and Dileep Nath (Promoter of technology services firm, Kanbay) have also participated in this round. ADVERTISEMENT The company is planning to use the received funding to strengthen their technology platform and to hire senior executives for its leadership team. The two-year-old company was brought into action in August 2015 by Ajay Rao and Rajesh Sharma. It is a tech-enabled 3PL (Third-party-logistics) with two distinct lines of business warehousing and less than truckload (LTL) distribution. The company has built its own network of hubs across North India and runs daily services across these hubs connecting part loads for its customers. It also offers multi-client warehousing and fulfillment solutions to both offline and online customers. Ajay Rao, CEO and Co-Founder at Emiza, explaining about the company said: I saw that the SME logistics service was underserved. Most were focussing on automotive parts and nobody was focussing on the SME space. That’s why I felt that SMEs would get more prominence. So we decided to start to cover our warehousing business focussed on B2B and e-commerce fulfilment. When Rajesh joined in as the co-founder, we started our distribution business. He says that as you move from primary transportation to intra-region or intra-state, shipments get smaller, and hence the transport mix changes from full truck loads (FTL) to less than a truckload (LTL). Managing an intra-region LTL network catering to Tier III and IV cities is a complex problem, and requires the right mix of technology and operating model. Vikram Godse, Managing Partner at MayfieldAdvisors LLP said: By providing a tech-driven, one-stop logistics solution, combined with a hub-and-spoke warehousing model that drives costs lower, Emiza’s offering is going to be a big pain killer for its customers Emiza is in competition with many other logistics startups which include ElasticRun, Delhivery, BlackBuck, Rivigo , etc. The rivalry companies have also raised significant amount of funding from various investors in multiple rounds.
