Dune sale process stalls

Nov 10, 2023

The sale process for Dune Group which was launched in March this year, has stalled despite offers from Next and Aurelius among others, Drapers understands. Share Dune store in York In March, Dune Group appointed professional services firm KPMG to find investors to take on founder Daniel Rubin's controlling stake in the business. Rubin said at the time: "Having spent 47 years in the footwear industry the time is right to realise the investment I have made in Dune. The business is strong with a first-class management team and exciting growth opportunities, both in the UK and internationally." Drapers understands the footwear retailer has received bids from potential buyers including Next, Footasylum owner Aurelius Group, as well as footwear manufacturers from overseas but the offers didn't match the target valuation of the business. Last month, Dune Group reported a 73% rise in EBITDA to £10.9m in the year to 28 January 2023, driven by brand elevation and international expansion. Turnover during the 12-month period rose 20.8% year on year to £141.4m, compared with £117.1m in the previous year, with UK sales up 17.7% to £102.4m. The company said its strong results reflected "the effect of successfully executing the strategy of brand elevation and good progress on key growth platforms". Advertisement
