Drain Doctor has applied to East Suffolk Council for retrospective approval to continue using the containers, measuring 20ft in length, at its home at Church Barn, in Orford Road, Bromeswell. On the application form for the development, applicant Paul Simpson, from Drain Doctor, said the containers were installed when the company moved into the premises in August, but staff were not aware that planning permission was required. He said: "We are seeking planning permission to use four shipping containers as permanent storage for our business operations on site. "The containers are standard 20ft units and are located in our vehicle parking area to the rear of the building. They have power and light connected. "The containers are well screened by existing trees and foliage and in areas where there is no cover, we intend to plant laurel bushes to further screen them - particularly along land adjacent to Sandy Lane." The Bromeswell business is part of the national Drain Doctor company which offers a range of services, including unblocking drains, drain repairs, plumbing repairs, drain surveys, unblocking toilets and an emergency plumber service.
