The foundation will focus on causes in Burkina Faso, Ethiopia, Kenya, Nigeria and South Africa, all countries where it believes it can have the greatest impact according to Bloomberg , which first reported the news. The grants will go also go toward improving agriculture productivity in Africa.Nigeria–which is Africa’s most populous country–is likely to receive most of the spending , Gates said Thursday. The grants are in addition to the philanthropies the Gates Foundation already supports in the continent, like groups that work to make vaccines more accessible and fight diseases like AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria, according to a statement .
